Joseph P. Parrella

POUGHKEEPSIE - Joseph P. Parrella passed away at age 85 on November 3, 2013. Born June 1, 1928 Poughkeepsie NY to Consiglia (nee DeNisco) and Faustino Parrella.

He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1946. After graduation he joined the United States Air Force and served primarily in Amarillo, Texas. He married Virginia Theresa Rooney on November 15, 1952 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Bronx NY and their first home was in Texas. After he left the service in 1954 they returned to New York to raise a family. He worked at Texaco Research Center for thirty-five (35) years retiring in 1992. He was a shift supervisor at retirement. He was a current member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie and previously of St Mary's Church, Our Lady of the Falls. He enjoyed traveling with family and has visited 47 states in the US. His travel also included many summer camping trips throughout New York State and other nearby destinations. He was an excellent carpenter and an avid model railroad enthusiast. He also enjoyed his daily excursions with his brother Ray. He was well respected and enjoyed providing for his

family.Predeceased by his wife Virginia "Ginny", he is survived by his children; son Joseph M Parrella and wife Mary of Poughkeepsie; son Mark P Parrella and wife Stacey of Wappingers Falls; son Brian D Parrella and wife Kathy of Monroe NY; and daughter Theresa Parrella Simonson of Chester, Va. He is also survived by grandchildren Daniel, Michelle, Michael, Matthew, Taylor, Chloe and Hannah. He is also survived by his brother Raymond (Ray) of Poughkeepsie and sister Assunta (Sue) Scimeca of Highland. He was predeceased by his brother Pasquale (Pat) and brother Gennaro (Gene). Other surviving family includes his siblings' families, numerous nieces and nephews and other family friends. Arrangements are Visitation - Wm. G. Miller & Son F.H.,Inc. on Friday Nov 8 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church on Saturday Nov 9 at 10am. Internment in family plot - St Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie NY. Memorial donations may be made to the church or charity of your choice.
