Joseph C. Warnock

Fontana, Ca. - Joseph C. Warnock, 88, passed away May 18, 2013 in Fontana, CA. A previous resident of Poughkeepsie, NY, Joseph most recently resided in Blacksburg, VA. He was born September 5, 1924 in Troy, NY to George B. and Mary Ethel Clarke Warnock. On October 14, 1950 he married Lillian Marie Reese at St. John the Baptist Church, in Walton, NY. She predeceased him on October 30, 2010. Joseph was a graduate of LaSalle Institute, Troy, NY in 1941 and of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Class of 1948. He served as Sergeant in the US Army Corp. of Engineers during WWII from 1942-1946 in the South Pacific. Joseph was employed as Senior Gas Engineer at Central Gas & Electric from 1948 until his retirement in 1984. He was an active member of St. Martin de Porres Church where he served as Lector and Eucharistic Minister, and was on the Parish Council and Knights of the Alter. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus, St. Martin de Porres Council 7551 and St. Martin de Porres Assembly 2891. Joseph was a member of American Gas Association and served on the Distribution Construction Committee from 1966-1985 and as Chairman from 1983-1984. His special recognitions included: Honorary God Father from Good Counsel Home; Outstanding Community Service, Town of LaGrange, July 1986; Golden Rule Award for Voluntary Service United Way of Dutchess County, July 1998; and the Distinguished Service Award, American Gas Association, May, 1984. Joseph is survived by his six children: James Warnock of Mandan, ND; Thomas & Sandra Warnock of Ocala, FL; Richard Warnock of Mountain View, CA; John Warnock of Frisco, TX; Mary Warnock of Scranton, PA. and Stephen & Lyne Warnock of Radford, VA; 9 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013 from 5-8 pm at Wm. G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 10 AM at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Rd., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Poughkeepsie. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to National Shrine of Divine Mercy, 2 Prospect Hill Rd., Stockbridge, MA 01262.
