Julia Pelish-Brijbassi Obituary

Julia

Pelish-Brijbassi

April 24, 1956 - March 10, 2016. Julia Pelish-Brijbassi passed away on March 10, 2016 in Vancouver BC after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. She was born in Poughkeepsie NY.

She is preceded in death by parents Stafford and Rosemary Pelish, and niece Kristin Rose Campanella. She leaves behind her adoring husband, Adrian Brijbassi (Vancouver BC); sisters Elizabeth Campanella (Hopewell Junction NY), Christine Craig (Millbrook NY); brothers Stafford Pelish III (Omaha NE), Matthew Pelish (Clifton Park NY); five nieces and nephews; and a legion of loving friends and extended family members around the world, as well as more admirers than she was ever aware.

Julia Pelish-Brijbassi was a renowned Canadian travel and wedding/portrait photographer, and co-founder of vacay.ca, one of Canada's best-received travel web sites. Julia's legacy will be in her photography, the never-ending love she shared with Adrian, and the community of friends and family who formed around her during her life, and especially among those who rallied around her to support her in her fight. Her art will endure for years to come, and her child-like curiosity for the world and its people, along with youthful enthusiasm will be missed. A memorial Mass will be held on March 28, 2016 at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Rd, Poughkeepsie NY.

Julia was my best friend in grade school. I was thinking about her today, her birthday, and was saddened to hear of her death. She had a great smile and a warm, wonderful personality. She was a bright light of joy!

A great day in Toronto 2013.

I will always find it difficult to believe you are gone. It's been almost 3 long and lonely years without you as my sister. I think about you everyday, especially in the evening when I spoke to you so often at that time. How I miss our phone conversations, your advice, your love and especially how we would laugh. I miss visiting and getting a beer and appetizers and catching up. I love you so much and miss you so much. You will always be in my heart.

As we continue to mourn the loss of our dearest Julie and get ready to celebrate her birthday this weekend I would like to commend Julie and Adrian for the friends they surrounded themselves with. It was amazing to watch their many friends in Vancouver be there for them during their time of need. I was there at the end and have never experienced anything like it. Friends rallying together to do anything they could to help Adrian and be there for Julie. As simple as sitting by Julie's bedside so Adrian could have a break to sitting with us while we gather together to lend support and prayers. This type of friendship and humanity I have never experienced before first hand. It speaks to how special Julie and my nephew Adrian are. When we welcomed Julie into our family in August 1998 - it was not difficult to love her. She just accepted everyone and became part of our family so easily. We are a huge family and its not easy for everyone to fit in but she did. That's how special she was. It was easy to love her, and now our hearts break as we say goodbye. She will live on forever in our memories. Rest in Peace dearest Julie knowing that you are loved and will be missed forever. Until we meet again.

My sister Julie was a wonderful influence in my life. Her positive approach to everything she did and her sense of humor is something I always admired. She could keep me laughing. I loved getting silly with her and our sense of humor would feed off each other. Sometimes we would laugh so hard my stomach would hurt. Great memories of picking her up at the train station in Poughkeepsie after a long day of travel from Vancouver and we would go out for a snack and drink and it was like she never left. We could pickup where we left off from last visit, or phone call. I will miss going out with you Julie and just talking with you and of course laughing with you, Rest in peace dear sister. You were the best sister I could ever ask for. I love and miss you
