We lived in CT and had a big old beer-can shaped coal furnace converted to burn oil. I modified it with firebrick and a smaller oil burner nozzle based on Duke's advice. Our oil consumption dropped a lot and we saved a bunch of money. Our original advice from Consumers Report was wrong and turned our furnace into a sooty smoke generator. Duke's advice worked.
I worked in the marine industry and it was a pleasure to talk to a real person who wanted to help. He knew stuff that younger technical people never learned. He offered to come over to CT to look over the furnace if I kept a martini pitcher full. He was a pleasure to talk to. The picture is absolutely cool.
God bless and RIP Duke Lorzing. Thanks for your lifetime of technical and military service.

On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans (USSVI), we offer our sincere condolences to Kathleen and Bruce and all of Duke's family and friends as you grieve his passing. May God whisper peace into your hearts and comfort and heal them. We are grateful for Chief Lorzing's brave service to our country during WWII in the U.S. Submarine Service. He served on several ships and submarines. He qualified in submarines on the USS Greenling SS-213 in 1942 and made two (2) War Patrols on her. He also made seven (7) War Patrols on the USS Tinosa SS-283. To our “Brother of the Dolphin” … "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. May you rest in peace and may God bless your loved ones who remain. Thank you for your service to our country." -- Rev. Ray Fritz, National Chaplain United States Submarine Veterans, USSVI.

I work for a Doctor that Mr. Lorzing used to see. I remember him well. He was one of my favorites. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
