Lisa Smith Obituary

Lisa A. Smith

Hyde Park - Lisa A. Smith, 57, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at St. Francis/Mid Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie with her family by her side. Lisa, a beloved wife, step mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter, made life richer for all who had the honor of knowing her and will be sorely missed.

Born on May 29, 1957, in Johnstown, PA, she was the eldest daughter of Alfred and Carol Scarperi. Her father predeceased her and her mother survives in Millbrook, NY.

Lisa moved to Millbrook in 1962 and grew up there, graduating from Millbrook High School in 1975. Growing up she was an avid horse lover and this love would follow her in future pursuits the rest of her life. She attended Berkeley Business School in White Plains where she graduated with a business degree. She worked for several years at the Greer School in Millbrook.

In the late 1970's, she met her future husband, Robert L. Smith of Hyde Park and resided at their horse farm, Netherwood Acres, where she became an integral part of the family business. Lisa was always a smiling, helpful, steady component of Netherwood and was much loved by many horse owners and riders that encountered her over the years.

In addition to her mother, Lisa is survived by her husband, Robert L. Smith of Hyde Park, and his children, Robert Smith of New York City, and Kristen Smith and grandson, Liam Smith, of Pleasant Valley; a brother, David A. Scarperi and his sons, Andrew and Trevor; and a sister, Patricia A. Weathers and brother-in-law, Roman R. Weathers and nephews, Michael C. Mozer and Brett A. Weathers, all of Millbrook.

In addition to her father, Lisa was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Sante and Inez Scarperi; maternal grandparents, Andrew and Adeline Setaro; and sister-in-law, Patricia A. Scarperi, who were all of Millbrook.

There are no calling hours.

In keeping with Lisa's wishes, cremation has taken place. Her ashes will be scattered on her beloved horse farm.

A private memorial service will take place at the convenience of the family.

Lisa's family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, PO Box 834, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park

Bob, Chrissie, and family, we are so very sorry to hear of the loss of Lisa. She was a good woman who truly loved what she did everyday. I mean she was able to get our Tess on a pony when no one else could. Amy M Miller and Michael A Martin (Bill's son) and the kids
