Marjorie Brody Obituary

Marjorie R. Brody

POUGHKEEPSIE - Marjorie Rubin Brody, 69, a native of Poughkeepsie, died in Poughkeepsie, NY on February 10, 2013 after a valiant struggle with cancer. Born on February 19, 1943 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Jeanne Loth Rubin. Marjorie was a graduate of the Poughkeepsie Day School, Poughkeepsie High School and Cornell University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She received her Master of Social Work from the University of Wisconsin and was a certified social worker for many years in Massachusetts, where she has resided for the past 30 years. Marge was esteemed by her colleagues and clients at Hudson House for her caring professionalism.

She loved the great outdoors where she communed with the beauty of nature, painted, bicycled, canoed, and hiked in all kinds of weather. Though personally frugal, she was very charitable and participated in innumerable walks for charities and causes. She started each day with the Boston Globe crossword puzzle and loved to paint Chinese watercolors and play piano. Marge was a fan of James Taylor, Ray Charles and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, whose concerts at Tanglewood and rehearsals in Boston gave her great pleasure. Marge's greatest devotion was to her family. She is survived by her three children: her daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Jason and granddaughter Joslan of Kittery, Maine, her son Jonathan, daughter-in-law Page and grandson Nate of Northampton, Massachusetts and her son David of Jersey City, New Jersey. She will also be sorely missed by her sister and brother-in-law Eleanor Rubin Charwat and Martin Charwat of Poughkeepsie, her former husband Leslie Brody of Newton, Massachusetts and several nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews as well as lifelong friends Betsy Kopstein-Stuts and Jill Auerbach.

The Charwats will sit shiva at their home at 7:30 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb 12 and 13. Donations may be made in Marjorie's memory to Advocates Inc. for Hudson House, One Clarks Hill, Suite 305, Framingham, MA 01702 or online at [email protected]. Jonathan, Dannete and Nate!
We are truly so sorry. It is hard to lose a parent. I know that she has a wonderful, caring son. May God richly bless you all and give you all His love, comfort, peace, and strength. A son learns a lot from his mom. Take care and know that you all have our love and hugs.
