Mary Torreggiani Obituary

Mary Teresa

Torreggiani

POUGHKEEPSIE - Mary Teresa Torreggiani, 79, a longtime Hyde Park resident and formerly of Wappingers Falls, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center with her family at her side.

She had been a resident of Wingate at Ulster for the last year and a half, where she enjoyed being a part of the Red Hat Society.

Born at 127 Linden Street in Yonkers on April 27, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Gaspare and Assunta Perciballi Aiello. Mary attended Yonkers High School.

On June 7, 1953 in Yonkers, she married Alfred D.(Freddie) Torreggiani Sr. He predeceased her in 2001.

Mary received her sacraments of baptism, first communion, and confirmation between Mt. Carmel and St. Anthony Churches in Yonkers.

In her younger years, she was very athletic. She enjoyed bowling, and was a member of many leagues. She also enjoyed playing the piano, a talent which she learned by ear with no formal training.

A loving mother, Mary raised six children. As her children got older, she worked for the Village of Wappingers Police Department as a dispatcher for fifteen years. Following her job at the Police Department, she went on to work for the Devereux Foundation in Red Hook until her retirement.

Mrs. Torreggiani is survived by her six children, Frances Woodruff and husband, Allen, of Modena, Susan Rinaldi of Accord, Alfred Torreggiani and wife, Jennifer, of Hyde Park, Kenneth Torreggiani and wife, Kathleen, of Modena, James Torreggiani of Saugerties, and William Torreggiani and wife, Kathy, of Plattekill; twelve grandchildren, Abram, Nicholas, Dana, Kenny, Joey, JJ, Annie, Allen, Sally Ann, Alfred (Baby Al), Sarah, and Ryan; six great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph Aiello of Hyde Park; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was also predeceased by her grandson, Sean Torreggiani; and sister, Angela Stanzione.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Thursday, June 23rd at Regina Coeli Church, Rte 9, Hyde Park.

Burial will follow in the family plot in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
