Michael Whitman Obituary
Red Hook - Michael Roy "Mick" Whitman, 62, of Red Hook, NY and formerly of Northville, NY, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY. Born on July 21, 1952, in Gloversville, NY, he was the son of the late Arnold and Maria (Wojtanowski) Whitman. Mick married Joan McCormack on August 30, 1986 at the Church of the Messiah in Rhinebeck, NY and she survives at home. For many years, prior to moving to Red Hook, Mick began his career as a manager for Coleco in Gloversville, NY. Once in Red Hook, he worked for COARC in Columbia County and in the auto industry for Hudson Cadillac/GMC in Poughkeepsie and most recently for Ruge's Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep in Rhinebeck. Even though he never received a degree in engineering, he excelled because of his passion in the manufacturing industry. Mick was an active member of the Northern Dutchess Bible Church, in Red Hook and previously served as a Town Justice in Hope, NY. He was active in his neighborhood, unselfishly helping anyone at any time of day.
Throughout his life his passion was always his family; he is survived by his wife, Joan Whitman of Red Hook, NY; his three sons, Christopher (Patricia) Whitman of Germantown, NY, Scott Whitman of Hope, NY, and Michael Whitman of Red Hook, NY; his grandchildren, Jordyn, Caitlyn, and Bryan Whitman; along with his siblings, Ruthie Kroll of Sarasota, FL, Larry Whitman of Northville, NY, Cheryl O'Brien of Port Charlotte, FL, John Whitman of San Jose, CA, and Joanne Petroski of Sydney, NY. Several nieces, nephew, colleagues and friends also survive.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on October 27th, 2014 from 2 - 4 & 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held at 08:00 PM. The Rev. Clint Eastman will officiate. Interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made in Mick's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
