Mildred Manocchia Obituary

MANOCCHIA, MILDRED (MAGUIRE), 93, passed away June 27th at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. She was the adoring and faithful wife of the late Pasquale F. Manocchia and daughter of the late Fredrick and Ruth (McKenzie) Maguire. She was the beloved mother of Pasquale A. Manocchia and his wife Deborah; grandmother of Jennifer L., Milena, and Anthony Manocchia; and proud mother-in-law of Mary C. Manocchia. She was the loving mother of the late Anthony and Edward Manocchia and sister of the late Edward Maguire. Mildred (Millie), grew up in Providence on Academy Avenue, attended Blessed Sacrament school and was a graduate of Hope High School. She worked as a manager of Fanny Farmer candy store in downtown Providence, was a former President of Our Lady of Charity, belonged to "The Carousel's" square dance group and was an avid bingo player. She loved traveling, knitting and entertaining, especially on Sunday afternoon's when she would regularly make "Gravy and meatballs" for anyone her family invited and this often included hockey players from Mt St Charles and students from Brown University who needed a home-cooked meal. Those who were fortunate enough to sit at her table and to know her will remember her loving warmth, extraordinary generosity, and indomitable spirit. She is a shining example of unconditional love, and will continue to be remembered and loved deeply by those who knew her. Visitation will be held Sunday, 3-6 p.m. with a funeral on Monday at 9 a.m. from the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Ave., Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Mary, Mother of Mankind Church, 25 Fourth Street, North Providence. It is with sadness that I hear of Millie's death. She and Pat, Tony and Eddie made up a large part of my childhood. I was always treated as one of the family, for meals and vacations and golf with Pat. Always a great smile, she was a wonderful person. Jack Devereaux
