Patrick Cahill, PhD was a brilliant man and an amazing husband to my dear friend, Linda Cahill, MD and wonderful father to Patrick. He will be missed by all. My husband Jorge, and I send our deepest condolences to Linda, Patrick and their family.

It is an honor to write this tribute to Pat Cahilla friend, colleague, teacher, and scholar, husband, and father. In whatever role we knew him, from whatever vantage point, he stood apart as someone special.

I first met Pat around 1979 during my post-doctoral fellowship, when Pat was working in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical College. I had just discovered hyperthyroidism in cats (Im a clinical veterinarian), and Pat was instrumental in helping me with studies of iodine kinetics and dose calculations used to cure the cats hyperthyroidism with radioiodine. Later, during the early to mid-80s when Pat had moved onto the MRI department (still at NY Hospital), I continued to collaborate with Pat on a number of research studies. Unfortunately, I lost track of Pat for some time, but he resurfaced in 2013 as an owner coming to my clinic to have Chester, his own hyperthyroid cat, treated with radioiodine. He subsequently helped me in the investigation, purchase, and set-up of a nuclear imaging camera to allow for thyroid imaging at one of my clinics.

I will always remember Pat as a warm, welcoming, and kind person, with a positive outlook on life and a fundamental faith in humanity. He was an extraordinary, truly wonderful human being. Pat was brilliant, always intellectually curious, with great knowledge about a large range of topics. He was a great teacher, from whom I learned so very much. It was a privilege for me to have been a part of Pats life. Although much too short, his was a life well-lived. I will miss Pat a lot and will never forget him.

I started as a graduate student of Pat Cahill and ended up as friend when I graduated. I would visit him at his lab and he would come and visit Gordon Monahan and I at North Shore. If you ever wanted to know something about anything just ask Pat. He had such an incredible depth of knowledge about so many topics. I think that is what amazed me the most about Pat. Aside from being one of the most brilliant people I have ever been blessed to know he is also one of the nicest people I ever met. Very difficult combination especially in the Academic arena where egos can get ugly:-)

I lost touch with Pat when I went to UPENN but wished I stayed more in touch. He was one of my favorite people to talk to. You always knew that you would leave the discussion with more knowledge.

Pat, you will be missed.

Pat and I used to get together about once a month to drink beer and eat french fries or pot stickers and talk about the science of nuclear medicine. It was a most enjoyable time. Pat visited my family in California and we visited his at his Pound Ridge home. We never stopped talking when all of us were together. He was truly a friend and I will miss him very much. I hope Linda and Patrick are able to live healthy lives and always keep fond memories of Pat just and I do.
