Paul Kefor Obituary

Paul Kefor

LaGrange - Paul Kefor,96, of LaGrange, NY passed away peacefully at Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY on February 21, 2018.

He was born in Little Falls, NY on October 25, 1921 to Dmytro and Anelia (Keryck) Kefor. His family soon moved to the Lower East Side of New York City where he grew up. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Peter, who died in infancy and his sister Anne Peshnak. An Army Air Corps World War II Veteran, he served as a flight engineer on PBY Catalina Aircraft in the Pacific Theater.

After returning from the war, he met his beloved wife Florence (Gastovich) in New York City. They married August 14, 1948 in Middleport, PA. and would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary later this year. They soon moved to Poughkeepsie and established Paul's Grocery at 52 Washington Street. He then worked as a civil engineer for the NYSDOT until his retirement in 1983. In 1953, he built his own home in Fishkill where he raised his family and lived for 60 years until moving to LaGrange.

He was a very proud patriarch to a large extended family. He was most proud of his children and their spouses: Tom and Andrea Kefor of Norton, MA; Marla and Michael Hill of Poughkeepsie, NY; and Edward and Claudia Kefor of Glastonbury, CT., his grandchildren and their spouses: Todd and Kristine Kefor, Ty and Anh-Dao Kefor, Colin and Carrie Hill, Amanda and Dan Ruhe, Andrew and Jacqueline Hill, Rachel and Laith Hamdan, and his granddaughters Camille, Mahlee, and Audrey Kefor. His precious great-grandchildren Declan, Mackennah, Kai, Mae, Nolan, Brandon, Graham, and Logan provided him with great joy.

He loved to joke, tease and be teased. He will be remembered for his generosity, sense of humor, his kind heart and will be greatly missed by all.

The family would like to acknowledge the loving care provided by Marla and Michael Hill with whom he lived. Thanks also go to the nurses and staff of Vassar Brothers Medical Center's Circle 5 and to Hospice of Dutchess County for their care and support.

Visitation will be Friday, February 23, 2018, 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Wm. G. Miller & Son FH., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 10 AM in Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main St. Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
