Poughkeepsie - Peter "Jay" Haynes Jr., 82 a longtime resident of Poughkeepsie, NY and recently relocated in 2015 to Woodbridge, VA where he accepted God's invitation for eternal peace on October 26, 2015 at INova Fairfax Hospital with his loving family by his side.

Peter was born to the late Peter and Anna Haynes Sr. on April 3, 1933 in South Carolina. He attended the Charleston County Public School District.

He was a lover of people and people loved him. Peter was an avid bowler and loved to travel. He loved sports, the NY Mets and the NY Jets were his favorite teams. He was employed at the Poughkeepsie City School District for 32 years before retiring.

Mr. Haynes is survived by 2 daughters; Robin Serrano of Woodbridge, VA and Lisa Shuler (James) of Lexington, SC; 3 sisters, Thelma Brown of Harlem, NY, Margie Green of Charleston, SC and Patricia Bennett of Charleston, SC; 3 brothers, James Haynes Sr. of Charleston, SC Albert Haynes Sr. of Charleston, SC and Russell Haynes Sr. of Harlem, NY; one granddaughter, Monita Garret of Woodbridge, VA and his extended loving family, Deacon James Davis of Poughkeepsie, NY, Wayne Boone and Family, Jean Woods and Lula Mae Harris along with a host of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Edith Ann Haynes.

Mr. Haynes will lay in repose 10-11 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2015 at Beulah Baptist Church, 92 Catharine Street, Poughkeepsie, NY. Rev. Jesse V. Bottoms Jr. will officiate. Service 11 a.m. at the church. Entombment at the Community Mausoleum at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.
