Robert Presbie Obituary
Poughkeepsie - Robert J Presbie, 82, died Friday, July 21, 2017 at home in New Paltz, N.Y. Professor emeritus of psychology at SUNY New Paltz, and artist, Bob was known for his wit, bow ties and spontaneous lectures on behavior modification. He enjoyed visiting art galleries, watching birds, listening to dixieland jazz, and creating his beloved mobiles.
Bob was born February 10, 1935 to a Polish family in Waterbury, CT. He received his B.A. from the University of Connecticut and his Ph.D. from Tulane University. While at Tulane he fell in love with his thesis advisor, Vera, and they married in 1964. From 1957-1960 Bob served as a test administrator for the Army in New Orleans, and in 1968 he began teaching at SUNY New Paltz.
Bob is survived by his daughters Annell, and Adrienne; a son, Tihan; six grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas. He was predeceased by his wife Vera, and his brother Edward.
Cremation took place July 25 at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Please join us to celebrate Bob's life at 1pm on Sunday, August 13 at the VFW (lower level), 101 Rte 208, New Paltz.

Bobby was my cousin. His mother, Helen Presbie, was my godmother. We grew up in a close family in Waterbury,Ct., but he entered the Army while I was still quite young. I remember Vera & the children many years ago. My condolences to Tihan, Adrienne and Annelle.

My name is Dennis Nolan. I shared a graduate student office with Bob and Berline Taylor at Newcomb College (Tulane) 1961-63. We had occasional correspondence for a few years after receiving our degrees when I was on the faculty at Ohio State, and Bob was faculty first at Marshall then SUNY New Paltz. I was saddened to learn of Berline's passing not long ago, and equally so for Bob.

To Roberts Family. My name is Wayne Black and I worked with Robert at the Armed Forces Examining Station in New Orleans at the Custom House on Canal Street. Robert was one of the first people I met there. As I reported I had no place to stay so I roomed with Robert before going to a boarding house. He was friendly and humorous in a strange was. Later Robert, Francis Arceri and I rented a house on Wamsly St. We were three differnt birds, but we got along well. Robert you to go to Tulane U. and do experiments with cats. I am sorry I didn't make contact sooner. My condolences for your loss. Frances Arceri passed recenty and Marvin Katz passed in the late 60's
