Robert Smith Obituary

Robert M. Smith

Modena, NY - Robert M. (Robbie) Smith, of Modena, NY, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 1st, at St. Francis Hospital. He was 51. Known to friends as Smitty, and also Bob, he worked for years as a carpenter and more recently worked for Williams Lumber in High Falls. He adored his two daughters, they meant the world to him. He loved to give nicknames to everyone, enjoyed NASCAR, Cape Cod with his family, camping and found his career in carpentry very gratifying. His family and also his church family were a very important part of his life.

Born on February 28, 1962 in Poughkeepsie, he attended Spackenkill High School and Dutchess Community College and received a degree in Electrical Engineering. He found great joy in taking care of animals and enjoyed helping others in any way he could. He is survived by his two daughters, Kaylene Smith and her fiancé David DeMiao of Highland,NY, Jenna Smith of Modena, NY. In addition to his daughters he is survived by his parents Milton and Carol Smith of High Falls, NY, his sister Susan and her husband James Tyler of Melbourne, Fl, his brothers Milton and his wife Ellie Smith of Lantana, FL, Brian of Atlanta, GA, and Thomas of High Falls, NY, his girlfriend, Cathy Stanton of Pleasant Valley, NY and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be at Gardiner Reformed Church, 166 Main Street, Gardiner NY 12525 from 1-4 pm on Sunday, October 6th, a memorial service will immediately follow the calling hours at 4 pm. Friends and family will gather after service. Burial will be at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Robert Smith to the family care of the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 38 Main Street, Highland, NY 12528.

Robert, you were a brother to me and we became instant friends when we met at Montgomery Wards back in 1979. All the fun, lifting weights together,driving our muscle cars, taking the same college curriculum and playing softball were all great memories. I will always think about you.
