Susan Kelly Obituary
Town of Poughkeepsie - Susan A. Kelly, 70, a lifelong area resident, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Poughkeepsie on January 7, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Doris Stimpson Kelly. She was a devoted daughter and since her father died young, she was very close with her mother. Her mother predeceased her on December 13, 2017.
Susan was an administrative assistant for many years at the Dutchess County Veterans Affairs Office in Poughkeepsie until her retirement. With her knowledge and experience and many years of service, she was a big asset to the VA Office.
Ms. Kelly was a communicant of St. Peter's Church in Hyde Park.
She was a kind person who loved cats, enjoyed sewing and was excellent at cross-stitch. Her hobbies also included reading books, especially when at the Jersey shore with her mother.
Susan is survived by her cousins, Cheryl Lombardi of Pennsylvania, and Bruce Stimpson and his wife, Wendy, of Hyde Park. She is also survived by many friends, especially her beloved feline friends, Sylvia and Tessa.
Calling hours will be from 11am to 12:30 pm on Friday, August 17th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Funeral services will follow at 12:30 pm with Fr. Patrick Curley officiating.
Burial will follow in the family plot at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Susan's family respectfully requests memorial donations to the Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Ave., Hyde Park, NY 12538. (www.dcspca.org)
