Hyde Park - Thomas Anthony DeFranza, 75, previously of Carmel, passed away, Friday, October 7, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Yonkers, NY on March 6, 1936 he was the son of the late Lawrence and Connie Rizio DeFranza. He was a graduate of Dobbs Ferry High School, where he played basketball and baseball.

He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1955 - 1959.

Mr. DeFranza worked at Jimmies Restaurant, a family owned business, in Dobbs Ferry, NY where he was the owner/operator for most of his life. Most recently, he was employed by Putnam ARC until his retirement.

Tom loved to play golf and tell a good joke.

In 1960, Mr. DeFranza married Phyllis DeVido. Mrs. DeFranza survives at home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Diana M. Smith and her husband, Michael, of Hyde Park; son, Mark DeFranza and his wife, Barbara, of Vancouver, WA; granddaughter, Lindsey Sarah Smith of Hyde Park; three brothers, Louis DeFranza of Hopewell Junction, Lawrence DeFranza and his wife, Nola, of Neenah WI, and James DeFranza and his wife, Regan, of Canton, NY; two sisters-in-law and their spouses; three brothers-in-law and their spouses; and many nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am, Monday, October 17, at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
