Warren Hankerson Obituary
Poughkeepsie - Warren Hankerson, 89, a life-long resident of Poughkeepsie, NY, went home to be with the Lord on October 5, 2017.
Warren was born in Solona, FL on July 22, 1928 to the late Harvard Hankerson and Verty Mincey Hankerson. He was employed with Metro North Railroad for 37 years where he retired in 1980.
He leaves to cherish his memories; one son, Reverend James E. Lawrence (Avis) of Ellenwood, GA; a loving daughter, Darlene Luster and (devoted son-in-law, Tyrone) of Poughkeepsie; one sister, Piccola Watkins of Poughkeepsie; 6 grandchildren, Carmella Whitaker, Duane Clark, William Clark, Krystal Davies all of Poughkeepsie, Anetta Keller of Lithonia, GA and Jamie Lawrence of Ellenwood, GA; 9 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; 2 special nephews, Wanzelee Watkins of Poughkeepsie and James Hurry Jr. (Brocky, whom he raised) of Poughkeepsie; one special niece, Lois Terry of Newburgh, NY; 2 special cousins, Willie B. Moore and Lorraine Williams and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Warren was predeceased by his wife, Annie L. Hurry Hankerson, one son, Ronald "Red" Hankerson; in-laws, Bishop George C. Ridgell and Elder Gladys Ridgell; one sister-in-law, Roberta Pittman and one brother-in-law, James Hurry Sr.
Mr. Hankerson will repose 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel, 43 Fairview Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY. Final Visitation 10-11 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Beulah Baptist Church, 92 Catharine Street, Poughkeepsie, NY, Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Jesse V. Bottoms Jr. will officiate. Interment at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY. Professional service entrusted to Rhodes Funeral Home, 43 Fairview Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Warren Hankerson was beloved by all his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. To him, we were all unique in his eyes and heart. He will be sorely missed.
