Catherine Forbes Obituary

Catherine M. "Kate" Forbes, 44 of North Liberty died Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from a sudden brain aneurysm.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Cathy's memory. Her family has asked to those who wish to send flowers that they are sent through the flower department of HyVee located on First Avenue in Iowa City. These are fellow employees of Kate's. Kate was born March 2, 1963, in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Barton and Carmela (Loria) Schuchert. She attended Iowa City schools graduating from West High School in 1981. On September 6, 1986, she married Leslie Forbes in Iowa City. For many years she worked at the former Eagles Grocery Store before its closing. Since then she has been employed by HyVee, first at the HyVee in Coralville then transferring to the First Avenue Store in Iowa City in 2000, where she was the scanning coordinator.
She was the secretary for the Wagner Holding Corporation, a member of Johnson County Isaac Walton League. Growing up she was very active in 4-H. She has enjoyed being an Iowa Hawkeye Fan, Green Bay Packer Fan, and St. Louis Cardinals fan, but there was little that was more important than supporting NASCAR, especially Tony Stewart, she was one of his most avid supporters in his fan club. At home she enjoyed her garden, planting flowers, playing in the dirt; listening to polkas, collecting bells and spoiling her pet cat, Muzzy.
Kate's family includes her husband, Leslie; parents, Barton and Carmela Schuchert of Iowa City; sisters, Carmela Lovelace and her husband, Matt of Coralville, and Nancy Hoke and her husband, Rob of Dysart, IA; brothers, Barton Schuchert Jr. and his wife, Meg of Iowa City, Brett Schuchert and his wife, Jeana of Oklahoma City, OK, and John Schuchert of Iowa City; niece and nephews, Zoe, Paul, Nathaniel, and Travis; her parents-in-law, Loren and Janet Forbes of Iowa City; sister-in-law, Julie Forbes of Parkridge, IL; brothers --in-law, Scott Forbes and his wife, Mary of Eldridge, IA, and Mark Forbes and his wife, Jeanne of St. Louis, MO.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, and brother-in-law, Jeff Forbes.
