Helen Farrell, 77

Helen Marie Farrell, 77, died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends in Iowa City on October 25, 2017.

Helen was born and grew up in the rural Menlo/Stuart, Iowa, where she graduated from Stuart High School in 1958.

She obtained a Bachelors Degree and a Masters of Science in Microbiology, both at the University of Iowa. She earned her Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Palmer College and practiced as a chiropractor in Iowa City for over twenty years.

Helen enjoyed the company of her friends and family, gardening, quilting, live music and travel. She is remembered for her piquant sense of humor, her learning and her willingness to examine new ideas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Marie Farrell of rural Menlo, Iowa by her sister, Catherine Ann Farrell of San Francisco, CA and her first husband, Edward Eugene Hill of Morgantown, WV.

Survivors include her husband, James HL Beeghly, her son Russell James Hill (Helen Chamberlin, Columbus, Ohio) and her daughter Laura Ellen Hill-Sakurai (Apurva Mehta, San Francisco, CA), her siblings, Richard Farrell (Marilyn) of Seattle, WA, Pat Farrell (Barb) of Iowa City, IA, and John Farrell (Robin) of Asheville, NC, as well as numerous nieces , nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.

The family wishes to thank the health care providers at Mercy Hospital of Iowa City and at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for their compassionate and expert care of Helen over the course of a long illness.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7PM Friday, October 27th at Lensing Oak Hill Funeral Home, 210 Holiday Road, Coralville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM Saturday, October 28th at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3000 12th Avenue, Coralville, IA with Father Chuck Adam officiating. Interment Service will be at Calvary Cemetery in Stuart, Iowa, at a later date.

We are so sorry to hear of Helen's passing, especially so soon after the funeral of Cathy Farrell. As I recall, it was at Uncle Louis funeral that I had a long discussion with her and was so glad to meet her there. My prayers are with you.
