Kevin Campbell Obituary

Kevin G. Campbell, 50, of Philipsburg, Montana, & formerly of Iowa City, died April 5, 2005, near Alameda, California, when the tugboat he was piloting capsized.
Kevin's body was recovered by the U.S. Coast Guard on April 24th and has been cremated. A Memorial Mass to Celebrate Kevin's Life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 28, 2005, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside, Iowa, with the Reverend Rich Adam officiating. Kevin's family will greet friends on Friday, May 27th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, P.O. Box 8249, Missoula, Montana, 59807-8249, www.rmef.com.
Kevin was born April 8, 1954, in Hinsdale, Illinois, the son of Arthur & Joyce (Ahern) Campbell. He graduated from Iowa City West High School in 1972. For 30 years, Kevin worked in maritime construction as an operating engineer. He worked along the western coast of the United States and was part of the crews that helped to build the Alaskan Pipeline.
He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #3 and enjoyed elk hunting. Friends described him as having an independent spirit and he had a love for the outdoors.
He is survived by his son, Tim Bigham of Eugene, Oregon; his parents, Art & Joyce of Iowa City; his sisters, Coreen Brown (Steve) of Ash Grove, Missouri, Carey Campbell of Milwaukie, Oregon, and brothers Sean Campbell (Pamela) of Ft. Worth, Texas, Brian Campbell (Deborah) of Orlando, Florida, and Todd Campbell of Marysville, Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
His grandparents preceded him in death.
