David Michael "Mike" Stepka

1939 - 2024

Mike Stepka died peacefully at home in Mount Hermon, CA at the age of 84. Born in San Jose CA to Frank and Doris Stepka, Mike moved with his parents to a ranch in Boulder Creek when he was 3 years old. Mike attended school in the San Lorenzo Valley, graduating high school in 1957. He went on to attend classes at Monterey Peninsula and Cabrillo colleges. During this time, Mike got reacquainted with and began dating Thelma Sullens, whom he'd first met in the high school band. They married on June 20th, 1964. Mike served in the Coast Guard Reserve from 1958-1966. In April 1969, Mike began his 30 year career as a firefighter for the city of Santa Cruz. In his free time, Mike loved spending time with his family, doing creative projects, playing his guitar, woodworking, and "tinkering."

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Thelma Stepka, their son David (Annie) Stepka, daughter Susie (Dave) Van Wagner, grandchildren Ady Stepka, Benjamin Van Wagner, and Abraham Stepka, Bertie Wilson (wife of Mike's late brother Calvin Wilson), 8 nieces and 3 nephews, and many more beloved family members. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Doris (Piper) Stepka, his brother Calvin Wilson, 2 nephews, and 1 niece.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life gathering which will be held on November 17, 2024 at 2:00, at Mount Hermon Camp and Conference Center, in the Field House at 17 Conference Drive, Mount Hermon.
