Alice Boland Obituary
Owego, New York: Alice Boland, 82, wife, mother, athlete and producer of culinary delights passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 surrounded by her family at home. Alice was born and raised in Endicott, NY where she attended Union Endicott High School and was employed by General Electric until she eventually moved to Owego as the bride of Jim. She was the proprietor of the Hand of Man Café in Owego for several years. Until she retired with her husband to take to the open road in their RV eventually settling at Crystal Lake Resort in Naples Florida. Alice was very active in her favorite sports including golf, tennis and Pickle Ball. Predeceased by her parents, Mary and George Jaros, Sr.; sisters, Mary Anne Jaros, Anna Jaros; brothers, George (Julie) Jaros, Mike (Barbara) Jaros. Alice is survived by her husband of 58 years, James D. Boland, Sr.; beloved children, Jolie (Scott) Potter, Judi Crotsley, Jana (George) Bowen, Jill (Skip) Hornick, James (Sandy) Boland, Jr., Jon (Amy) Boland, all of Owego area; grandchildren, Kyle, Evan and Eric MacDonald, Caleb and Coltyn Crotsley, Robert Hall, Lisa Wakeman, Shawn Crotsley, Charlsie and Malley Bowen, Madison, Javan and Braelyn Hornick, Tyler and Kirsten Boland, Wylie, Oriah and Atlas Boland; several great-grandchildren; brother, Fred Jaros, Apalachin, NY; several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 300 Main St., Owego, NY. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego, NY. Memorial contributions may be made in Alice Boland's memory to Owego Gymnastics and Activities Center 501(C)(3), 748 State Route 38, Owego, NY 13827. Alice was such a wonderful person. I always enjoyed my conversations with her. Such a sweet lady. I will always cherish the memories of growing up camping at the lake. We were one big family with lots of good times. I was so glad that they choose Florida as their winter home so we could still get together. My last memory of her was a very nice lunch date when they first arrived in Florida this past winter. We had a great time. She will be greatly missed but I feel very blessed to have known her. My deepest sympathy to all the Boland family.

When I was running the Garden Centre next door to the Hand of Man and had just had my twins, Alice served up the best soup I ever ate. Her soup and her friendly manner warmed both my heart and soul. She'll always be the best to me and the memories I'll always have!

Our prayers and thoughts are with the Boland family at this time. Alice was my neighbor at Crystal Lake for over twenty five years. During this time I found Alice to be a warm, kind, funny with a great laugh and always ready for a glass of wine. She was involved in many activities at Crystal Lake as well as helping others, whether working in the kitchen or playing golf or cards or dancing or just talking with everybody. Alice enjoyed life and brought joy and friendship to all that knew her. Rest in Peace Alice. We will miss you.
