Houghton, Alida

Alida Houghton, 89, of Schenectady, NY, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012, at Ellis Hospital. She was the daughter of the late, Grant and Mary Alida Carley. She was born in 1922 and raised in Maine, NY. She was a great mother-in-law, mother, grand mother and great great grandmother. Alida enjoyed quilting, reading, great storytelling and traveling all over the country. She had worked for GE and retired from IBM. She was the most beautiful person to everyone that knew her. She loved spending time with family and especially with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was survived by her son, Lauren (Pat) Houghton, Lisle, NY, two dauthers, Linda Houghton, Phillisburg, NJ, Alice Griffin Whitmore, Johnson City, NY; one sister, Penny Hust, Glen Aubrey, NY; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; and three on the way; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Grant (Mary Alida) Carley; her sister, Verna; son, Philip; and grandson, Noah. Alida lived a great life with her caregivers, Robin and Will Aponte before her passing. There will be a celebrating of her at the Town of Binghamton Community Center, 1905 Coleman Rd, Binghamton, NY, Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 2:00PM. Burial will be in the Spring at the Maine Cemetery at the families convenience. She will always be in the hearts of all family members, friends and loved ones.

I remember Miss Alida; she had been a friend of my aunt, Sylvia Rea. When I met Miss Alida, I understood the meaning of the word 'gentlewoman.' I am truly sorry for your loss.
