Frank LoVuolo Obituary

Frank A. LoVuolo

Binghamton - Frank A LoVuolo joined his beloved wife Grace in heaven on December 17, 2018. Born on May 1, 1924, he was the son of Denny and Rose (Liciandrello) LoVuolo and brother to Edward and Denny LoVuolo, all of whom predeceased him. He graduated from Binghamton North High School in 1942 and attended St. Bonaventure University where he earned a football scholarship. However, his studies were interrupted by WW II. Frank proudly served with the 107th Field Artillery Battalion of the 28th Infantry (Keystone) Division and saw action in Normandy, the Battle of Huertgen Forest, and the Battle of the Bulge. He marched under the Champs Elysee during the liberation of Paris and, eventually, returned to continue his studies and graduate from St. Bonaventure University in 1948 with a Master's Degree in Education. In 1949, he was selected in the NFL Draft by the NY Giants and in the All-America Football Conference Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He chose to play for the Giants. In 1950, he married his college sweetheart, Grace Paolillo, and the two became public school teachers. Frank was a teacher and administrator in the Binghamton school system for 30 years. During that time, he also coached football and golf at Binghamton Central High School, basketball at St. Patrick's Academy, and football at Catholic Central High School. It had been his dream to instruct, guide and, hopefully, inspire his students and players. He was fortunate to build bonds and relationships that lasted a lifetime. He will be loved and missed by his children Frank and Marthanne LoVuolo, Mark and Patty LoVuolo, and Cynthia and Jim Cardillo; his grandchildren Nick LoVuolo, Jason Cardillo, Adrienne LoVuolo, Matt and Becca Cardillo, Melissa Cardillo, Cathryn Cardillo, and Heather Cardillo; and his great-grandson Chase Cardillo. Frank's family would like to thank the staff at Good Shepherd Fairview Home. Their care of and consideration for Frank meant a lot to his family. A Funeral Mass will be held on January 5, 2019 at St. Patrick's Church in Binghamton, NY at 9:30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National WW II Museum through their website nationalww2museum.org. As the site states, "Help us tell their stories". Frank, having lived it and being ever the history teacher, would never want the sacrifice of so many to be forgotten. Arrangements are in the care of Albert J. DeMarco and the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME, INC.

How well I remember 1947 watching Frank and the fine Bonaventure football team at Forness Stadium in Alleghany. Frank, along with Leo Crampsey and Steve Charsky were three very good Ends and three real good guys. Warren Lutzel 1947-1951

Celebrating a life well lived. We will cherish the memories of Grace and Frank forever. Sitting near them at St. Patrick's 7:30 am was always a highlight for the week. We engaged in many conversations before and after mass, something I looked forward to each week. May God Bless you forever.

I had the sincere honor of meeting Frank awhile back. He was a wonderful, kind and decent person. He treated me like I was part of his family. He was a pleasure to talk with. A dark shadow crossed my heart today to see that he had passed. He will always be in my heart and memory. You now have the oportunity to dance with Grace again.. Peace and love to his family at this difficult time.

Frank, Mark, and Cynthia I'm very sorry about your dad's passing. He was a nice man that always recognized me, said hello, and asked what I was up to when we crossed paths in the Terrace and elsewhere. My mom sends her condolences as well. God bless.

As an East Jr./North High alumni I fondly remember your father as being tough when he had to be and completely compassionate when you needed someone in your corner. He gave us something to aspire to be. I knew about his football years but not about his service in WWII. What a great man. I hope it helps to know that he is so fondly remembered by his students.

Frank, Mark, Cynthia and Family,
In September 1952 I arrived at BCHS along with your father who was beginning (as I recall it), his teaching career. He taught me history and did a great job cultivating my life-long interest in the subject. He was a wonderful teacher and a good man.
Later, when I returned from my Army service, we became neighbors in Sunrise Terrace and commenced a personal and professional friendship which lasted for many years. Your father had a long, satisfying life with many blessings. He was one of the world's great guys and will be sorely missed by his many, many friends.
My thoughts and prayers are with your father Frank (as well as your mother Grace) and your whole family at this sad time.

To Frank's family, I was so saddened to read of his passing in today's paper; but, but a little ray of light came through to know your mom and dad will now both be together again watching over you from above. The obituary was a beautiful tribute to your dad. Just a side note, Vermont University played St. Bonaventure last week in basketball and someone asked me if I knew the best football player to graduate from St. Bonaventure. Without hesitation, I answered "FRANK LoVUOLO".

Coach LoVuolo was a great man and leader with a wonderful heart! Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this most difficult time! It was an honor for me to have played for him on the St. Patrick's Academy basketball teams of 1960-61 and 1961-62! Just recently I had the opportunity to visit him, with one of my teammates, at Good Shepherd Fairview Nursing Home! Also, while in Binghamton, I was fortunate enough to attend the dinner at Binghamton High School where Frank was one of the distinguished honorees! It was wonderful to see and visit with him again! He will truly be missed! Our condolences to all of his family! Rest In Peace Coach; you have definitely earned it!
