I was among the six or so lucky faculty individuals in the 1970s to benefit from Gil Janauer's ski instruction on the gentle slopes of the Binghamton campus. In later years I was fortunate to try the slopes at Aspen, Whistler, Gray Rocks and many other winter wonderland slopes. I have always been grateful for Gil's cheerful encouragement in those early steps on Suny's gentle slopes.

Dear Marianne, Gerald and Ann,
it has been a year now that Gilbert is no longer with us. I know that you are continuing his ideas in education--building on the tradition he created, but adding your humanistic leadership and experience. My warmest wishes are with you.

What a long struggle Gilbert had! I remember his smile and friendliness. He was a great friend and professor to my father, Bob Johnston. Our families are ever connected and we offer our condolences at this time.

To Marianne and Family:
Our deepest sympathy on your loss. Gil was one of the two Chemistry faculty members who taught Analytical Chemistry to Biochemistry majors at SUNY Binghamton, while we taught the Biochemistry courses. We will remember him as he was in those years.

To Marianne and Family:
Sincere condolences on the loss of your husband, father, relative, Gil. Gil and I arrived at Binghamton at about the same time, about 1965. Shortly after, Gil offered to teach
faculty how to ski, giving about a dozen of us lessons, through many sessions, on campus. He was a generous and pleasant colleague, with a ready smile. I missed seeing him after his accident, and I am saddened by his passing.

Marianne,

I offer my sincere condolences for you and your family, who lost a dear man, who suffered so much after his tragic accident in 1988. I remember traveling with you to Cortland in 1989 or 1990 when Gilbert was a patient at what was Highgate Manor nursing home, where I had spent six months as a patient in 1987/88.
