Hilton D. Evans
formerly of Deposit, N.Y.Hilton D. Evans, 85, a resident of Green Meadows in Painted Post, N.Y. and formerly of Deposit, N.Y., died December 25, 2002 at Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira, N.Y. He was born June 20, 1917 in Sherman, Pa., the son of William Evans and Cyrenna Littel Evans. He was predeceased by his wife, Eunice, on November 5, 2001. Hilton is survived by by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Maryellen Evans, Sand Lake, N.Y.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Gerry Ernst, Franklinville, N.Y., and Barbara and Louis Condon, Painted Post, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by brothers, Clair W. Evans and Bruce F. Evans; and sisters Gladys R. Evans and Myrtle Bantz. He was a US Army veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was retired from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1249, Syracuse, N.Y. He was a former member of the Deposit First Baptist Church.
Funeral and committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2002 at the Sherman Bible Chapel, Sherman, Pa. with Rev. Joseph Axtell, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be in Hale Eddy Cemetery, Hale Eddy, N.Y. at a later date. Friends may call at the Zacharias Funeral Home, 78 Second St., Deposit, N.Y. on Saturday, December 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, or to the American Diabetes Association.
