Jay Manarky Obituary

Jay G. Manarky
of Owego
formerly of Kirkwood
Jay G. Manarky, died on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at home. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Winifred Manarky; twin brother, Jack S. Manarky; sisters, Joan Casper Kendrot and Ellen Harendza. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Sharon (Ayers) Manarky; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen & Douglas Worden of Owego and Lisa Manarky & Noel Moon III of Wilmington, DE; two grandsons, Jesse and his wife, Christianne May of Charlotte, NC, Douglas Worden II of Owego; sister-in-law, Edith Manarky of West Windsor; several brother-in-laws; sister-in-laws; nieces; nephews as well as cousins in the Scranton, PA and Queens, NY area. He was a US Navy veteran having served from 1952 – 1954 on the aircraft carriers USS Salerno Bay, USS Lake Champlain and USS Bennington. He was a former announcer and station manager for the radio station WEBO. He was master of ceremonies for many local events including the Tioga County Fair. In 1997 and 2006, he was awarded honorary fireman status in the Apalachin Fire Department for the many years he served as master of Ceremonies at the annual Little Miss Apalachin contest during Apalachin's annual Fireman's Field Days. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Campville, NY, a member of American Legion Post #401, Owego, NY and he proudly served as President of Kirkwood Historical Society, Kirkwood, NY for many years. We are deeply saddened by our loss, but are comforted in knowing that he rest in the arms of the Lord, is among wonderful old friends and family, and now knows the answers to the many questions that intrigued him in his lifetime. "Love, Jay and Sharon" were signed often on cards and notes and the names meant more together than apart.

Sharon,
I’m so sorry to hear of Jay’s passing. I had many opportunities to work with him when he called on us for advertising. I always appreciated Jay’s gentle spirit. I enjoyed his sense of humor and I admired his honesty and high ethical standards.

May God comfort you and your family during this time.
