Joey A. Ferguson, 42, went peacefully to the Lord, with his family by his side on Monday, September 22, 2008, at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, N.Y. Joe had fought a very difficult battle with Leukemia for 11 months. Joe was born on August 31st, 1966, in Norwich, N.Y., son of Sharon Bryce. Joe grew up in Norwich and Greene, and spent the past 25 years with his soul mate and best friend, his wife, Dawn L. Ferguson. Joe worked as a carpenter with many companies and on many projects throughout N.Y. State. He did taxidermy work for many years, crafting plaques for individuals as well as sporting goods stores. For a time, he was also employed with Professional Telecommunications, and most recently he worked for Strick Development, constructing Home Depot stores throughout the Unites States. Joe loved and took pride in his work and possessed an extremely strong work ethic. In his free time, Joe loved to fish and hunt with his best friends and sons-in-law, Walter Young and Brandon Pinney and friend, Milt Hackett. Joe was an avid collector of tools and took pride in his collection and his accomplishments. He loved to build and craft and he provided many family members and friends with priceless keepsakes he had handcrafted: hutches, Adirondack chairs, cupboards, plaques and much more. Joe never quit working and he never gave up. Joe's pride and joy were his children and family. He is survived by his wife, Dawn; his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Walter Young, Greene; his son and his fiancé, Brian and Faith, Greene; his daughter and son-in-law, Danielle and Brandon Ferguson Pinney, Greene; his daughters, Jolene, Justine, Joeliesha, and his precious little sweetheart, Tiffany, who will never forget that she was his favorite, all of Greene. He is also survived by his beautiful grandchildren, Felicity Faith Young, Halie Heaven Young, Heather Brianne Young, Alex Cameron Pinney; and the newest and first little grandson, Joseph Ryan Ferguson Pinney. Joe is also survived by his mother, Sharon Bryce, Norwich; his grandmother, Yvonne Ferguson, Norwich; his brothers and their wives, Michael and Terry Bryce, New Hampshire, Andy and Robin Bryce, Conklin; and his sister, Tammy Chiara, Baltimore, Maryland. He is also survived by five nieces and four nephews. Most recently he was able to spend a little time with one of his special nieces, Anesha (Bam), who was visiting from Baltimore. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A special thank you to Joe's Aunt Millie, Aunt Pat and cousin, Paula, as they were here to share their love and their kindness to the entire family, this meant so much to Joe.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, Greene, N.Y. Arrangements are under the direction of Root Funeral Home, Greene, N.Y. A life here on earth is lost, but a place in Heaven is now filled with the beautiful spirit of Joey Furgeson. Joe… Dad… we believe in angels and we are sure that angels are watching over you. Till we meet again… rest comfortably in the Lord's arms. We all love you.
