John Picciano Obituary

Picciano, John

Johnson City: lost his courageous 15yr MS battle on Wednesday evening, January 9, 2013. With his faithful dog, Spencer beside him, and one last look in the eyes of his beloved and dedicated wife, Julie R. Picciano, he opened his eyes in heaven. He was predeceased by his dad, Frederick G Picciano. He is survived by his children, Mark Cintron and Janet Santoro; four grandchildren: Victoria, Crystal, Braedon and Julia. He is also survived by his dear mom, Helen L Picciano; siblings: Lorette, Peter & Tom Picciano & Elaine (Mark) Englert, and many nieces, nephews, including Godson, Lars Hanson, in-law siblings and many other treasured, caring family members and friends. John loved the outdoors and found great pleasure in camping, walking along the beach and exploring nature. He was a lifelong Yankee Fan. One special memory of his 60th birthday on May 18th, 2012, was when two Yankee representatives joined him and his family for his party! John graduated from Seton Catholic HS and attended the U of Detroit and Hofstra University. His community-minded spirit showed in every area of his life, including his work at: The Division of Real Property and The Flushing Downtown Re-Development in NYC, in Broome County at Endicott Development Association and the Broome Chamber of Commerce and in his volunteerism at the Carousel Festivals, the Adopt-a-Highway program and many others. He was also a member of the Endicott Rotary Club. Special thanks to everyone whose kindnesses and help made John's care and last days easier and brighter. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 12th at 12:30 pm at St James Church, 155 Main St, Johnson City, NY. The family will receive friends at the Barber Memorial Home Inc., 428 Main St, Johnson City, NY on Saturday from 10 am-12 noon. Burial will be Monday January 14th at 10am at Calvary Cemetery. Donations can be made in his memory to Seton Catholic H.S., 70 Seminary Ave, Binghamton, NY 13905.

The world is truly a sadder place without John in it. We went to High School together, and I always remembered his smile and him being Happy.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. A beautiful person and life ended all to soon. We are not here very long and in the words to that old gospel song, " The world is not my world. I'm just passing through." Surely you have numerous happy memories to console you at this time of loss. Prayers for you all.

John was a bright spot in everyone's Seton High days. We walked many miles together from West Endicott to Endwell and those times were filled with a lot of great conversations and laughs. The last Class of 1970 reunion was a time to revisit those memories and we all enjoyed John's same old humor and personality! My thoughts and prayers to all.

Matthew 5:4
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

With a heavy heart and sense of profound loss, I say good-bye to the gentleman I had the privilege of knowing. A human life is a story told by God. The story of John was one of a loving and caring heart. God bless.

Dear Julie, Pete, Lorette, Helen, and family, I love the picture that you have in his Obituary because he still looked so youthful, even when I last saw him a month ago. Until the very end, he still got such great pleasure out of sports, news, and
seeing his family and friends. He was so inspirational in his faith and in his love for life,
even while suffering. I will miss him so much and I will always be grateful for being able to be with him
more this past year. You are all in my thoughts
and prayers, today..tomorrow...and in the weeks and months to come. With sincere sympathy and love, Debbie
