Joseph E. Buran, of Endwell, born October 25, 1924 in Endicott, N.Y., died peacefully in his sleep July 13, 2007 after a long illness in Buffalo, New York, at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his wife, Teressa H. (Vencko) Buran. Surviving are his son, Joseph E. (Kathy Ann) Buran, MD, E. Amherst, New York; and daughter, Kathleen A. Buran, MD, Okemos, Michigan; grandchildren, Kristina N., Joseph R., Kelsey L.; brother, Robert T. Buran, MD; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was a lifelong resident of Endicott, New York, and a proud member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church. He had a passion for music and enjoyed dancing. He was a founding member of the band, "The Four Knights" and was an outstanding tenor saxophonist. His love of jazz music was a vital part of his retirement life that he shared with Santa Zweig. He was a member of the Binghamton Country Club and served on the Board of Directors for Bankers Trust and Key Bank of Binghamton. He was an alumnus of Syracuse University and Haverford College.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, 9:30 a.m. from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church at 10 a.m. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Sunday from 2-4 and evening 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the Joseph Buran Memorial Music Fund, c/o Tim Winterhalter, AG Edwards & Sons, 6700 Main Street, Beresford Court, Williamsville, N.Y. 14221.
