Farrell, Paul A.

Paul A. Farrell, 85, of Johnson City NY formerly of Endicott NY, Passed away peacefully at UHS Wilson on July 13, 2017 after an extended cardiac illness. He was born in Johnson City to Dr. Walter J. and Hilda Farrell. He attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated from the University of Scranton. He worked as a systems engineer at IBM for 43 years. Though a civilian, his career was focused on military projects, taking him throughout the country and around the world. He was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club and involved for many years with the Tioga County Democratic Committee. He actively participated in the Catholic Church, most recently at Our Lady of Good Counsel where he was director of RCIA and served in the soup kitchen. Paul is predeceased by his parents, his sister Jane Sullivan, brother Dr. Walter J. Farrell, Jr. and brothers-in-law Richard Sullivan, Benedetto Muggeo, Robert Foley, and Donald Mangine. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Martha Boyce Farrell, his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jeff Sontag, Julie and James Valenti, Sheila and Martin Meaney, Marla and Larry Goyden, Dr. Paula Farrell and Gregory Passafiume; his grandchildren, Adam and Paul Sontag, Jamie (David) Zochol, Jesse Valenti, Sean (Liz) Meaney, Mike (Caitlyn) Meaney, Tommy Meaney, Marissa (Alex) Jones, Meghan, Lucas and Matthew Goyden, great granddaughter Rylee Zochol; sisters and brother-in-law Elizabeth and John MacBlane and Maureen Muggeo; sisters-in-law Patricia Farrell, Patricia Foley, and Mary Mangine; and many nieces and nephews. Paul traveled extensively for work and pleasure. His favorite time was vacations with his family at the shore. His "girls" were his pride and joy, most importantly Martha. They grew up and grew old together. A Funeral Mass will be offered at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, West Main Street, Endicott Monday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Paul's name may be made to OLGC Soup Kitchen, 701 W. Main St., Endicott, NY or a charity of one's choice.

Martha; I am so sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed working with Paul at IBM-FSD, especially during flight test at Edwards AFB. The kindness you and Paul showed to my wife and I while on that assignment was very much appreciated.
