William Carter Obituary

William D. Carter

Endicott - William D. Carter, 65, of Endicott, entered eternal rest on Thursday evening, May 20, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Bill is predeceased by his parents, William G. and Alice Carter, his in-laws, Joseph and Theresa Wega, and his Godfather, Carmine Crescente. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Lucy and their four daughters; Marialice Carter (Mikal), Claire (Andrew) Cox, Brittany (Peter) Fabian, and Hayley (Peter) Kishpaugh; his grandchildren Adeline, Evelyn, Jack, Finn, Vera, Ian, Benjamin, Nicholas, Martin, Theodore, Matthew, and William; his siblings Bradley (Judy) Carter, Kathleen (Gary) Ives, James (Amanda) Carter, Laura (Ken) Hoff, David (Anne) Carter; his Godmother Loretta Crescente; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to being a dedicated husband and loving father, Bill had a gift for finding joy in the simple pleasures: time with family and friends, music, gazing at the moon, fishing in Canada with his family, a hot cup of coffee, a cold beer, and an occasional cigar.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday, May 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church, Main Street, Johnson City, New York. The family will receive friends at church Tuesday 9:30 a.m. until Mass time.

Bill was my first friend I met in St. James school and remained a very close friend during that time & during our time singing in the boy's choir and at JCHS. Bill was an exceptional person and I recall our trip to Disney in Orlando in 1975 with another friend. Although our careers took different paths he remained very close in my heart and I think of him often and all of the good times we shared with family and friends. Prayers to Lucy and family. In the movie "a River Runs Through It" after the son dies, the brother and his father were talking about what a special and wonderful guy the other son was....the father, interupted..."he was more than that....he was beautiful"...that was my brother Bill, a beautiful sweet man of many God given talents...his joy, his compassion, his sense of leadership and responsibility, his humor and his laughter. Bill loved so many things and took pleasure in knowing cultures, and poetry, and music of all kinds, food from all over, and the history behind seemingly everything. Most of all he loved his family.

Bill, we miss you dearly, always will, but we will keep you in our hearts and on our minds...love you brother....

Although I only knew Bill through the telephone- i could always tell he was a wonderful person- kind -considerate and a gentleman... he would call to find out status's of payments from this or that company and he just had a way of bringing a smile to your face. I have missed his calls and am saddened to hear of his passing. My sympathies to his family- whom you could tell meant the world to him, may the memories bring you comfort.

Lucy and family,
We were so sorry to learn of Bill’s passing. Although we haven’t seen you guys in years, we have fond memories of your family on Wilma Street. Our daughter had such fun with your girls and you and Bill were so kind and generous to Mike’s parents. RIP Bill.

Words fail at a time like this. Bill was one of a kind... larger than life...his laugh, his smile, his outgoing personality....and so much more. Truly a fine man, devoted to his family, always there for you. You couldn't help smiling when Bill greeted you. He was genuine. We lost a good one, but our loss is Heaven's gain. Bill will live in our hearts, our souls. We will certainly miss him. Prayers to Lucy and the family.

I am so saddened by the passing of Bill. He was one of my very best friends who I met in kindergarten at St. James. I recently heard about his moving back to start a business. A truly great man. Many fond memories.
