Alice Wismer Obituary

WISMER, Alice Elliot Alice was a strong, caring woman and world traveler who blessed her family with ninety eight years and nine months of her fiery life. At 91 she was still driving and until a month ago was still walking and enjoying eating out at In-n-Out Burger. We lost the joy of her presence on Monday, January 2, 2006 when she died at Brighton Gardens in Santa Rosa after a brief illness. The sixth in a family of nine siblings, Alice grew up in Southern California. After attending Whittier College, she worked in title insurance, and her husband Ed worked as a banker in Los Angeles. They lived in the Orient during the late 1940's and early 1950's, then returned to California and remained here for the rest of their lives, residing first in Laguna Beach and then in Downey, CA. After losing her husband in 1992, Alice lived independently in Downey, CA for nine more years, outliving most of her friends. She moved to Santa Rosa in 2001 to be nearer her family. Alice was a wonderful grandma to her 3 grandchildren. With her husband, Ed, they would take the grandkids on grand adventures through the deserts of California and the Southwest. There were trips to White Sands, new Mexico and Carlsbad Caverns, AZ. Many a time was the visit to every child's favorite playground, Disneyland, and for variety, trips to Knott's Berry Farm and all the other amusement parks filling southern and northern California. Her brother Frank, sister Jenny, son Robert of Bodega Bay; her two grandsons, Brian of Forestville, and Bruce of Oakland; and her two great grandchildren, Shasta and Jevria, who were lucky enough to have known their great grandmother, survive Alice.
