Anna Heck Obituary

Anna Marie passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on October 15, 2009. Mother, grandmother, friend and devoted catholic Anna Marie lived her life always thinking of others. Born in St. Louis Missouri on August 26, 1917. Anna Marie was the oldest of three children. Her family owned and operated Grace Bakery and Delicatessen where she worked as a young girl through high school and college. Anna Marie had a passion for physical education and volunteer work. Following World War II Anna Marie moved out to Lodi California to be with her husband who had just taken on a new position in the wine industry. She had a wonderful marriage to Paul R. Heck for 35 years, late owner of Korbel Champagne Cellars. She spent the remaining part of her life caring for her family and donating to many Catholic related organizations. She was a Charter Member of the Council on Aging in Sonoma County and served on the board for 25 years as well as being a parishioner for St. Eugene's Catholic Church. In celebration of her Irish heritage it became a family tradition to attend St. Eugene's St. Patrick's Day event, and Anna Marie always looked forward to seeing the Irish dancers. Surprisingly meticulous and detailed you would always know it was a card from Anna Marie from the underlining, starring and circling of special and important words. Her love for her family and close friends was experienced by many over the years of her life. Always with a smile on her face Anna Marie truly enjoyed life. Her common sense and solid spiritual approach to many situations which came her way were an inspiration to all who knew her. Anna Marie is survived by her son Paul A. Heck (59) and his wife Maggie Johnston (53), her daughter Pamela Marie Bacigalupi 54; grandchildren Tyler Anthony Heck 31, Regan Filgas Heck 28, Katherine Anne Bacigalupi 26, Nicole Marie Bacigalupi 26; sisters-in-law Pigeon Stolting of Nevada and Dolores Beetz of St. Louis Missouri as well as the Grace Family of St. Louis, MO. Anna Marie was also affectionately known as Grandma by Cindy Marquis, Vickie, Kevin and Julie King of Sonoma County. Friends and family are invited to attend a Rosary and Vigil on October 30, 2009 7:00 p.m. at Lafferty and Smith. The Memorial mass will be on Saturday October 31, 2009 10:30 a.m. at St. Eugene's Cathedral, Santa Rosa. Following the mass there will be a celebration at Becker Center in Anna Marie's memory. In a world so full of fear, frenzy and fighting, it was and is always comforting to remember the tangible goodness of Anna Marie. A privilege to have known her and good memories of her children in my classes. Ken Bubb

So many will feel the loss of Mrs. Heck, a warm and giving gal who sparkled much as her Korbel champagne.
