Beatrice "Bea" Root, 96, of Windsor, CA, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, just one day shy of her 97th birthday. She joined her beloved husband of 77 years, Richard "Dick" Root, who predeceased her on March 14, 2024.
Born in her family home in Owego, NY, on October 6, 1928, Bea was the last of the 12 children of Elizabeth and Joseph Guy Stocks. From humble beginnings, she built a long and admirable career with Tioga County Social Services, where she worked her way up from Clerk Typist to Acting Commissioner before her retirement.
Bea and Dick shared a lifetime of adventure. Together they traveled the United States, Mexico, and Canada in their cherished Airstream, and later explored Scotland and England to trace her Stocks and Fraser family roots. For more than 35 years, they made their home at The Country Mobile Home Park, where Bea could often be found playing Scrabble with "the ladies" and indulging in her fondness of birds, both real and ceramic, with a special fondness for Cardinals.
She was endlessly proud of her family and the generations that followed her. Bea is survived by her three children, Gregory Root (Sue), Diantha Okrepkie (Bruce), and Teri Smith (Johnny); seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Bea lived a long and full life marked by laughter, love and family. At Bea's request, services will be private. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Brookdale Windsor and Providence Compassus Hospice for their compassionate care.
