Catherine Smail Obituary

Catherine Smail passed away in Petaluma on February 26, 2012. Devoted wife of John Smail of Petaluma. Loving mother of Mary (Peter) Ousley of Lafayette, Richard (Sandy) Smail, Jenny (Steven) Traverso all of Petaluma. Doting grandmother of John Smail, Cherilyn Smail, Nathan Vanderlind, Scott Vanderlind, Jessica (Jim) Miller, William Clifton all of Petaluma, Nicole Morrow of San Rafael, Elaina (Sean) Drake of Castro Valley and Alexa Ousley and Rachel Ousley of Lafayette and great-grandmother of Leslie Miller and Logan Miller. Dear sister of Dr. David William Rich, Susan Rich, Sara Rich, and Johnny (Maureen) Rich all of Oregon. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. David Russell Rich of Portland, OR. Catherine spent most of her career as a secretary, most notably with North Marin County Water District. In retirement she volunteered her time at the McDowell Elementary School Library, working with students and trying to pass on her lifelong love of reading. As per Catherine's wishes there will not be a service. Memorial contributions may be made to the ASPCA, 520 8th Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10018 in her memory.
