David Lorenz Obituary

David Fletcher Lorenz
April 7, 1952 - March 6, 2024
David Fletcher Lorenz, born on April 7, 1952, passed away on March 6, 2024, after battling numerous complications of Parkinson's disease. He is survived by his wife Nancy, (Nee Osborne) and his daughter Amelia. He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Velva Lorenz and his sister Josette Oberon Stanley. His surviving sisters are Sandra Corvus Hallock (Keith), and Suzanne Lorenz (Sam Beasley). He was close to all of his nieces, nephews, and their families.
Dave served in the US Navy from 1972-1975. He was assigned duty on the USS Hepburn DE-1055 as an Electronic Technician. He was part of a task force operating in the South China Sea stationed at Subic Bay. During his time onboard he also visited ports at Oahu, Midway, Guam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Papua New Guinea and Australia. Dave continued to serve in the reserves for four years.
Dave and Nancy met at Napa College in 1976, and both went to work at Hewlett-Packard Santa Rosa in 1978. There, Dave enjoyed a long career as an Electronics Technician and Customer Support Engineer. He enjoyed his job, making many close friends along the way.
Dave and Nancy were married on August 23, 1980. In 1988, they welcomed the pride and joy of their lives, their daughter Amelia.
Dave was an accomplished athlete who enjoyed scuba diving, kayaking, and mountain biking. Windsurfing was his true passion, and on any windy afternoon, he could be found out on the water at Dillon, Bodega Bay, Sherman Island, or Tomales Bay. Dave was proud of his windsurfing van, and enjoyed many sailing trips to Baja and Maui. When not sailing, Dave's favorite activities were amateur radio (WA6QNA), tinkering in the garage, working in the yard, and various home improvements such as planting what is now our redwood forest and re-roofing the house.
Dave was a talented bass player, who loved jamming with his friends and playing in various bands throughout Sonoma County. He especially loved that his daughter Amelia later followed in his footsteps, learning to play the stand-up bass.
Dave was a wonderfully kind and sweet man. He was smart, talented, unpretentious, easy, and relaxed. He was selective about his friends; if you were Dave's friend, you knew it was real. We are grateful they were there for him, especially through the struggles of the last few years.
His passing has left an emptiness in our lives and he will be incredibly missed by all. Dave will live on in our memories forever.
The family plans to invite friends and family to a celebration of his life later this spring.

Hello Nancy,
I was so very surprised and saddened to hear of Dave´s passing on the Napa High School website. We had kind of lost touch as I had dropped out of Facebook a few years ago. Dave was a wonderful human and I feel very lucky to have known him. I wish you and Amelia comfort and peace during this difficult time. Blessings.

Dave, I have known you since high school. You were the best man at my wedding, We shared so many trips and adventures together and my past is full of memories of you. I am sorry I never got a chance to say how much you mean to me before you passed. I don't know what happens when people die, but I hope your afterlife is spent with lots of wind surfing, music, and jams with other musicians. Love you, Bruce

Dave met me in the lobby on my first day of work at HP, and instantly put me at ease and helped teach me about spectrum analyzers. But besides that, he taught me abalone diving, then windsurfing, then mountain biking, took me kayaking on the Estero Americano, windsurfing at Bodega, Tamalas, Limantour, and Rio Vista, so I feel a huge sense of gratitude and I wish I could have spent more time with him recently but for the care I'm having to devote to my dad in his time of need. Certainly Dave made the most of his years, and we are all so grateful to him, but also sad. Now my hope is that Nancy recovers her happiness, fully, in time, and that Amelia carries on her father's legacy of being so kind, helpful and good, that everyone loves her as much as we all did her dad.

Dear Nancy and Amelia, I have so many fond memories of Dave through the years. I remember his warmth, humor and caring personality when he first entered your life at family gatherings in our youth. He was very modest as I didn't realize all of his many talents and his service and travel around the world. I was lucky to experience his musical talent when he performed with a band in the North Bay. I will miss his kind soul and wish you and Amelia much strength as you cherish the beautiful memories you share together.

Dave was such a warm and wonderful presence - his quiet patience in the face of his enormous recent challenges is a testament to his strong character and big heart. It was a such pleasure to know him and our hearts are aching for Nancy and Amelia right now. He is greatly missed.

I fondly remember windsurfing many fantastic days with Dave in the 90's and early 2000's.
He was always friendly, positive and fun to enjoy the wonderful water world we have in Sonoma/Marin counties. His presence has been and will be missed.
RIP.

I am speechless! I have so many fond memories of our friendship throughout our careers at Hewlett-Packard/Agilent! He will be missed by so many. I am sending hugs and prayers with my condolences to Nancy and Amelia.

One of our funnest memories was riding out the Lona Prieta earthquake together in his front yard, when we were picking up an old motorcycle.

Rest in peace my friend.
