Gordon Mitchell Obituary

Gordon (Mitch) passed away in St. Helena Hospital on October 3, 2011 at the age of 86. Mitch is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy; son Duane (Gayle) of Livermore, daughter Charlene (Ernie) Ohlson of Healdsburg, grandson Jeremy of Colorado and sister Phyllis Glassbrook of New Jersey; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mitch was born in 1924 in San Leandro to Maude and Hutcheon Mitchell, and lived his young life in Castro Valley, moving to Hayward when he married Peggy in 1948. He attended Hayward High School until he joined the Navy in 1943. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1946 he went to work for AT&T in their Hayward office on B Street and stayed there until retiring in 1983. In 1984, he and Peggy moved to their present home in Clear Lake. Mitch loved all kinds of sports and looked forward to his daily walks with the neighbors and is best known for his joke and story telling. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011, 1:00 p.m. at the Ohlson's home in Healdsburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to your favorite charity.
