Grant WOODRUFF Obituary

WOODRUFF, Grant There simply are not enough words to describe Grant Woodruff. Foremost, he was a true family man who was devoted to his wife Laraine, daughter Mackenzie, his Mom Carmel, the light of his life grandson "Pa's boy" Sawyer, his older brother Gary, as well as other family members. Grant had an enthusiasm for life beyond compare. His laughter always drew a crowd. He cannot be defined in a few words. He was a hero to many, a man of great courage and heart and his passion and exuberance was incredibly infectious. He was an avid sportsman, who loved hunting, fishing, abalone diving, and golfing. He enjoyed dirty martinis, cold Coronas, camping at Eagle Lake with his North River boat, and gathering with family and friends. He had a great capacity to always reach for more; he never settled for just good enough. He was a man of tremendous strength of body and spirit. He pushed himself to stay strong and fit no matter how he was feeling; spending countless hours at his friend Greg's gym next door. If you knew him, you loved him. He was full of life, outgoing, energetic, funny, fun to be around, determined, a high achiever, competent, capable, witty, wasn't shy about voicing his opinions, and that's just naming a few. Born in Sacramento, CA, November 14, 1946, his folks Art and Carmel, moved him and his brother Gary to Willits, where he grew up, and made many treasured friends. He attended Willits High where he played competitive sports (football, baseball, basketball, track and field, and wrestling) and was very proud to be a Willits Wolverine. After high school he attended Santa Rosa Junior College and served in the Vietnam War. Grant's basic spirit was that of a daredevil having no fear. He chose to climb to "the highest heights" while employed by PG&E, where he made many more life-long friends. He retired "in one piece" after 41 years of service. On July 22, 2017, Grant returned to his creator, surrounded by his loving family. His father, Art Woodruff, preceded him in death. Grant left an indelible imprint on our hearts and souls; he will never be forgotten. A Celebration of Grant's life will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall, 545 Pacific Ave., Santa Rosa, California. Memorial donations may be made to the UCSF Grand Multiple Myeloma Translational Initiative.

So sorry for your loss. Grant was the best guy and what a difference he could make in a day. You could be having a bad day and Grant could say something humorous and would make you laugh and forget about your troubles.

I will remember Grant as one of the best all-around athletes at Willits High during my years there. He excelled on the field of competition but also as a human being. He was fun-loving and treated everyone with respect and kindness. Above all, he had an infectious smile and positive attitude toward life. I just wish he had been able to win his final battle.
We offer our sincere condolences to his family.
