Hildegard Beering Obituary

Hildegard F. Beering
March 26, 1930 - March 16, 2025
Strong, resilient, formidable, and one classy lady. A life well lived.
Hildegard passed away peacefully just shy of her 95th birthday on Sunday, March 16, 2025. The eldest of three girls, she was born on March 26, 1930 in Waldhausen, Germany to Fritz and Katholine Frey. Hildegard emigrated to the United States at age 23 and settled in San Francisco. She is survived by her beloved husband, Heinrich Beering, whom she met in 1957 at a dance held by the San Francisco German Club. They have been inseparable ever since and married for nearly 67 years.
She was a member of the Kopling Society for over 70 years. She enjoyed a long career at the California State Automobile Association where she started out in the mail room as a mail clerk in San Francisco and worked her way up to Assistant General Manager at the Santa Rosa branch, retiring in 1987. After briefly moving back to Germany in 1978, she and Heinz returned to the US and settled in Rohnert Park in 1979. She lived a full life of traveling with Heinz and enjoyed showing her parents in younger years the beautiful highlights of California, even meeting Mr. Walt Disney on a trip to Catalina Island. Upon retirement she and Heinz went on many excursions all over the West with their traveling groups, but their favorite place was the Hawaiian Islands.
Hildegard was the "Hostess with the Mostest." One could dare say she would give Martha Stewart a run for her money. She was a divine cook and German cookie baker. When visiting her home, one could always expect a favorite drink in hand and an elegant meal served at a beautifully set table. She kept a guest book of all of those who had the privilege of dining at her home, and spent many hours looking through those and reminiscing in her later years.
Family was extremely important to Hildegard. Many Christmas Eves were spent at her home where she would delight her nieces and nephews by lighting real candles on the Christmas tree in the German tradition. She had a keen memory for dates and never missed a birthday or anniversary.
She is survived by her husband Heinz, her sister and brother-in-law Lore and Heinz.
Birker of Waldhausen, Germany; her beloved sister-in-law, Margret Beering Williams, and nearly 30 nieces and nephews (and countless greats and great-greats). She was the most loving and devoted aunt, and she will be missed tremendously. When asked how she was doing in recent years, she would reply in a boisterous tone: I'm hanging in there!
