While Joab was a Golden Gate Transit Bus Driver as an occupation, he had the education and goal of becoming a professional stage actor. He accomplished a blend of both worlds.
Joab's entry into acting began in junior high, and then Santa Rosa High School where he appeared in many productions, including: A Cult Film "Zach and Joab go to the Mall", "Little Shop of Horrors", and "The Good Woman of Szechuan".
After High School, Joab was briefly in the United States Marine Corps. Given Joab's dramatic flair, this was more of a brief educational experience toward future acclaim. From there, Joab moved on to Theater Arts at Solano College, where he gained significant attention. He played Che Guevara in "Evita" and earned the Ellie Award for best actor in a California stage production. He was recruited to attend the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (AMDA) in New York City. Joab graduated from AMDA, and spent the next ten-plus years in various theater positions, including being part of a traveling theater troupe.
Joab was an avid "Friend of Bill W" for over 24 years, and brought many people into the fold of a clean and sober lifestyle. He was also given recognition in a New York magazine for his work for White Glove, a successful apartment cleaning company. His clients included Vanessa Williams among other recognized individuals.
Joab is survived by his parents, Robin and David Hamilton, sister Danielle E. Hamilton, nephew Logan Hamilton and niece Madelynne Welch, his biological father Thomas Wright, and brothers Sean and Damian Wright. He will be fondly remembered by step-daughters Jane "Ming-Ming" Bui, and Aeriel Woodson. He will be interred on his parent's property in North Carolina.
