Laurence Evans Obituary

Died on Monday afternoon, August 24, 2009. Larry's death was sudden, natural, and unexpected. Larry is survived by Nancie Swanberg and her daughters, Clea and Gabriel, as well as a brother, sister, two sons, daughter, several grandchildren and many, many friends. Larry was an architectural designer, entrepreneur, author and artist. His architectural contributions can be see from Willows, CA, to the train museum in Sacramento, and the design of Rodeo Drive Two in Beverly Hills. He co-authored a book with Nancie West Swanberg that is still in use at many schools of architecture. In publishing circles he was known for his puzzles and maze books. As an artist, his work graced magazine covers from Hot Rod Magazine to Omni Magazine and other publications. When he retired a decade ago, he focused on computer art, painting and selling watercolors. At the Aqus Coffee Café he was known as the guy who always did "high fives." He will be greatly missed. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at the Moose Lodge in Petaluma, 300 English Street, on Sunday, August 30th, from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.

As a child, no one inspired me to be an artist more than Larry. My elementary school papers are all adorned with werewolves menacing maidens and toothy creatures fighting-- my own attempts to capture the magic of his "How to Draw Monsters" which I constantly checked out of the school library. What a talented and amazing man. May he rest in peace, and his family and friends be comforted knowing that his legacy will always live on through his art.

Dear Family, please accept my deepest condolences and sympathy on the loss of your brother and father. To Gwynne, especially, the loss of Larry reminds me of the many good times I shared with your beautiful mother, Dorothy. To this day, I often miss her and think of her fondly.

I wish you all Peace and Blessings, Mac
