Lee Walker Obituary

Lee F. Walker, Jr.
June 18, 1931 - March 13, 2022
Lee F. Walker, Jr. passed away peacefully, at home, at the age of 90. Raised in Sebastopol, Lee was the patriarch of Walker Apples, a long-time farming family in the Graton / Sebastopol areas. Lee was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 57 years, Shirley Walker in November 2010. Survived by their children Susan Walker, Lee (Barbara) Walker III, and John (Cindy) Walker, along with three grandsons Thomas (Michelle) Beckman, Kyler (Shannon) Walker and Clay (Jordan) Walker and great grandchildren Austin and Blaine Beckman, Landon Lee Walker and Violet Walker. Loving brother of Arthur "Bob" (Marilyn) Walker and survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lee was a very kind and loving family man, who enjoyed farming his multi-generational apple ranch. He and his late wife Shirley started selling apples to the public thru their roadside stand in 1960, growing the business to shipping apples all over the world in the '80s. Everyone loved to come visit the farm. While farming and raising apples was his business, his true passion was baseball. He played ball for the Army for two years, and briefly played semi-pro ball in Seattle. When traded to a team on the East coast, he made the decision to return home to run the family apple farm. He continued to feed his passion by pitching batting practice to the San Francisco Giants during the McCovey and Mays era and coaching local little league and high school teams for over 60 years.
Very active in his community, Lee volunteered and served on numerous boards, received several awards for outstanding achievements from the Sonoma County Farm Bureau, Farm Trails, Graton Fire Dept, Masons and Sonoma County Trail Blazers, just to name a few. His dedication to serving his community and generosity will be missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 1:00 PM at the Holy Ghost Hall located at 7960 Mill Station Rd, Sebastopol. There will be a small graveside service at 10 AM at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 1700 Pleasant Hill Rd, Sebastopol.
In lieu of flowers, please send charitable donations to the hospice organization Anchor Health, 505 San Marin Drive, Ste B100, Novato, CA 94945, or a charity of your choice.

Sorry this is so late. We just heard about Lee. Lee was a super nice person and friend. If we would have known, we would have come to his memorial.

Our condolences from Lucio Family.

My parents were longtime friends, Maria and Demencio Lucio. We would see Lee and his lovely wife on opening day at SF Giants stadium. Good times.
Lee came to my dad´s funeral in 1999. Again you will be missed. RIP.

Lee Walker Family, my heartfelt condolences to you all. I had a little bit of interaction with your Dad (known to us as Mr. Walker) and your Mom too. Faces may fade a little over time, but the kindness leaves an imprint in our hearts forever. The ways of your parents were definitely passed on to you. I remember you Lee and Sue from elementary school on through high school. Like the water rings caused by a tossed pebble are our lives and the people we meet on this journey. May you find comfort in God, family and friends during this time of grief. mary h.

Lee and Barbara: Your dad and Shirley were very welcoming to me in 1974 when I first showed up, and made me feel like I belonged, when many people didn't even notice . . That warmth obviously left its mark on you two as well . . Thank you and thank your parents for a lifetime of community . . their loss to the industry, and to the rest of us is immeasurable except in the grace of those lives they touched, including mine . . .

Please accept our deepest sympathies. I have fond memories of Mr. Walker when I was a young boy. I remember him going to his son John's flag football games at Oak Grove Elementary School. Later on in high school he would come out and pitch to our baseball team at El Molino High. But the most memorable thing I remember about him was his "kind smile". Every time I saw him he always said, "Hi Mike" with that kind smile. I will always remember that about him.

My condolences to the Walker family. I was lucky enough to play for the Rosebuds at the end of Lee´s career. He was a true gentleman and always willing to share his knowledge about the art of pitching. I remember sitting next to Lee and he would observe opposing hitters, then tell me where they would hit the ball. Then it would happen as he predicted. The other thing I will never forget was Lee saying "the worst place to be wild, was down the middle". Your memory and advice lives on.

I didn't know Mr. Walker personally, but I used to love watching him pitch for the Rosebuds back in the 1960's. May he rest in peace, and hopefully they have a baseball team in Heaven. Sincerely, Pat Crowley
