Lewis Castleberry Obituary
August 25, 1938 - June 9, 2025
Born in Tacoma, WA, son of the late Dave Castleberry and Hope and John (stepfather) Toselli. Brother of the late DAC Castleberry. Survived by a nephew and numerous cousins and by dear friend and companion of over 50 years, Janet Barri. A graduate of Vallejo High School ('56) and SSU.
Binky taught physical education and math for 22 years at Santa Rosa Middle School. A well-liked coach, he coached many championship girls' basketball and volley ball teams. He organized and led the intramural sports program. Over the years he kept in touch with many of the students and players.
A fan of water sports in his younger days, he enjoyed surfing and excelled at waterskiing. Throughout his life, his greatest joy was fly-fishing. Always tying his own flies, he fished local and West Coast waters for steelhead and salmon. He travelled the world for the next big catch, including tarpon in FL; sailfish and dorado in Loreto, Baja Sur; bonefish on Christmas Island and a dream trip to the Dean River in B.C. for steelhead. Binky made many friends while on the water.
In recent years he enjoyed gardening and was proud of the tasty tomatoes, peaches, and nectarines he grew.
He will be missed by all, including his cat, Fluffy. At his request, there will be no services.

Mr. Castleberry was perhaps the most influential teacher/coach I ever had. Thank you, thank you, for engaging my love for volleyball, my respect for basketball (by getting me off that court and onto the volleyball court!), and by making math understandable and interesting. You changed many young lives for the better, including my own.
