Mary Doherty Obituary

Mary P Doherty
July 20, 1931 - March 2, 2025
On March 2nd, Mary took the Lord's hand and entered the gates of heaven at the age of 93. She is succeeded in death by her parents Giuseppe and Agostina, her husband Raymond H Doherty, Jr. and her daughter Carol Doherty Orloff. She was born in South San Francisco, CA. Mary attended South San Francisco High School where she graduated in 1949. She was a very active member of her high school class including being treasurer and assisted with organizing many of their class reunions. She met her husband Hank in 1949 and were married in 1954 until his death in 2020. She is survived by her brother, Edward Gioffre, her children, Steve Doherty (Liz), Tim Doherty (Donna), Nancy Agles (Wayne) and Joe Doherty (Debbie). She had 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins, some in Canada, Australia, and Italy.
Mary spent most of her career in accounting including working at R. Dakin & Co., Russ Berrie, and most recently at the Orchard where she worked as the assistant to the office manager for 17 years. She and her husband Hank lived in the Orchard for almost 34 years.
Mary's faith was an important part of her life and she carried that all throughout her life. Mary has touched every person she's known in a positive way. Her care and understanding of people made her a ray of sunshine when they saw her. As the primary face of the Orchard office for 17 years, she helped many residents with their questions and solved many issues that arose. Her dedication to her job and helping people with love and affection showed the type of person she was.
Mary was an exceptional mother figure and human being. She possessed the best qualities: Unconditional love, a nurturing spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her family and friends.
She was at her happiest with an apron on and in her kitchen cooking for a crowd.
We love you, miss you and will forever be in our hearts.
Our deepest thanks and gratitude go out to Hospice at Kaiser. Their unconditional caring and support for Mary and her family will never be forgotten.
Her services will be held at Resurrection Roman Catholic Church, Santa Rosa, CA 303 Stony Point Rd. at 11:00 a.m. on April 12th. The family will have a private burial following.

Soar with the angels, Mary. I am going to really miss my church seatmate and dear friend. When we first came to the Orchard in 1997 you made us feel so welcome. You helped me immensely with my many travel shows with wine cheese pairings for our Orchard residents. You were a huge support when I took over Betty Bruton's job as coordinator of our yearly Christmas boutique benefitting "Make a Wish" foundation and so many more events. May you Rest in Eternal Peace and Perpetual Light Shine Upon You. Love you, Mary.

Time for the party to begin, every time you and Hank and Louie and Beatrice entered G&G to grocery shop! You guys exuded a joy for life and living like nobody's business!
Then, one by one, you became the sole survivor.
We shared many hugs and tears, you and I.
You taught me more about life than you will ever be aware of.
I will miss you forever, my Mary.
God speed.

I am so sorry to hear of Mary's passing. I worked with Mary at Russ Berrie a long time ago. Mary was so admired and loved by everyone that worked there. She and I have been exchanging Christmas cards for many years. I will miss hearing from her and learning all the news about her family. She loved her family so much. I will miss hearing from you Mary but know that you are with Hank now.

I did not know Mary, but she sounded like a beautiful lady and fondly, a Doherty. May you R.I.P.
