Merlin Elmer Johnson of Santa Rosa, CA, son of William Elmer Johnson and Mary Louise Pierini, passed away peacefully on Thursday May 19, 2022. Merlin was 90 years old and a former resident of Lake County, Palm Desert and Fairfax.
Merlin was a talented lighting designer, master machinist, mechanical/electrical genius and entrepreneur. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he was also a dedicated Master Mason, Eastern Star Past Patron, member of the Scottish Rite, the Shriners and a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
A loving and devoted family man, Merlin is survived by his wife of 69 years, Peggy Jean Johnson, his sons Duane, Glenn and Eric Johnson, their respective wives Michele, Charlene and Kimberly Johnson, brother Don Johnson and devoted partner Ruben Sandate, aunt and uncle, Vera and Joe La Notte, and cousins Frank and Donna La Notte. He was known as "Papa" to 12 grandchildren, Rick Leis, Jennifer Schindler, Caitlin Fuerst, Caitlin Campbell, Erica Erickson, Christopher, Scott, Matthew, Carly, Sarah, Justin and Erika Johnson, and four great grandchildren.
Merlin lived his entire life with enthusiasm and humor. He was passionate about his outdoor rose gardens, ponds, fountains, bird sanctuary, indoor fish tanks, good food and all kinds of music.
Merlin will be laid to rest on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 in Santa Rosa. A memorial service will be held at Eggen & Lance Chapel at 1540 Mendocino Avenue at 10:00 am.
