Neil Philipsen Obituary
October 2, 1996 - December 20, 2019
Born in Santa Rosa, Neil will be remembered by many as quiet and pensive, but with a great sense of humor and a quick wit. His early years were filled with soccer, Taekwondo, and Boy Scouts. In high school, his passion for ballroom dance was both a social network and a creative outlet. In college, he turned his energy to computer programming and on line gaming. Unfortunately, in early 2018, mental health issues began dominating his decisions and life choices. He separated himself from the family and moved to Missouri in mid-2018. By early 2019 he moved to Alaska, still battling mental health issues. In December of 2019, at the age of 23, Neil took his own life. He is survived by parents Kurt Philipsen and Karen Philipsen, siblings Travis (28), Rebecca (20) and Katelyn (11).
A memorial service will be held on March 7 at 1 p.m., at Bayside Church Santa Rosa, 3175 Sebastopol Road, Santa Rosa, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Neil's memory to the Stanford Hospital. (please designate to the Autism Center).

Thank you all for your kind words. Neil was a wonderful person and as his mom in his birthday month my heart breaks for the loss of my precious boy. Neil had many health challenges from birth, but what a light he was too. I thank God for the time I had with him and for the love and joy he brought to me. I look forward to the day we are reunited in heaven. I love you blue eyes to the moon and back and as far as the east is from the west. You are great!

I was friends with Neil when doing a semester abroad in America. Afair Neil was well liked and while quirky those quirks were viewed fondly by people. He was a sweet guy.
I implore anyone who has mental health problems to seek help- Neil going missing at SRJC, leaving Santa Rosa junior college and signing up to an online school, moving around the USA and moving to Alaska (when he didn´t drive) were all part of his deterioration.
I only learned about his death in June 2020 and wish i had known him better. We´d kept in touch on discord but sporadically.

So very sorry to read of this young man's suicide. I know all too well how it affects family and loved ones, as I lost my brother at age 41 to mental health issues.
It took a long time to realize there was really nothing anyone could do to change the course he was on, and that it was his choice to end it all.
May your sweet fond memories bring you peace.
