Patrick BROCKWAY Obituary

BROCKWAY, Patrick L. December 1, 1957 - April 7, 2016 In loving remembrance of an authentic Renaissance man...Patrick Lester Brockway was born and raised in Humboldt County, CA. He spent the last 16 years living in Windsor, CA. On April 7, Pat peacefully surrendered after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Priscilla, and sisters, Donna and Laurie. He is survived by his children, Chelsea, Donovan and Fiona; younger brother and best friend, Leland Brockway; sister in-law, Annette; niece, Courtney Brockway; nephew, LJ Brockway; great-nephew, Ethan; wife, Vivian, and her children, Cassie and Zoe Lindstrom. Pat graduated from Humboldt State University with a BA in Industrial Technology with a minor in Business Administration. His life was filled with a variety of jobs and interests. Pat was known for his enthusiasm. He had an infectious excitement about everything he was planning or working on, whether it was travel, a garden, or a woodworking project; he would almost jump up and down overcome by this enthusiasm while talking about his ideas. He always had something he was working on. He built furniture, restored antique furniture, and took beautiful photos that decorated his home. He flew airplanes, rode motorcycles, loved classic cars and managed a 50-acre orchard in Ashland, OR. This vibrant and dynamic person was also gifted with unbelievable patience; he let everyone he met be themselves without judgment. Pat was easy to love and loved being surrounded by family and friends. He kept in touch with everyone, maintaining connections across countries and decades. He loved to tell stories and jokes; he had a gift for weaving a tale that usually ended with him laughing at himself. Even as his health declined, he still prided himself in being able to ride his unicycle. He was deeply connected to his Celtic heritage and enjoyed Celtic music, wearing kilts, and collecting flasks. Pat had three children from his first marriage to Lisa Clyde: Chelsea, Donovan and Fiona. He called them his angels and they were the light of his life. He was a devoted father and attended all of their competitions and events, always with a camera in tow and sporting a huge grin. In 2003, Pat met his second wife and Anam Cara, Vivian. Together, Pat and Vivian traveled the world, visiting old friends and making new ones. Pat was a natural in the garden and Vivian shared this passion. They loved to spend afternoons and weekends tending their yard. The beautiful garden at their house will be the site of the family's celebration of his life, to be taking place on May 15th, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. Please carpool from Windsor High School. The family would like to extend special thanks for all the love and support that surrounded Pat at the end of his life.

I met Pat during our children's early school yrs. He was a uplifting friend who easily made me laugh with his jokes and adventurous stories. I will always remember joining him at 3am, camera in hand to shoot the lift off of Hot Air Balloons. Truly a highlight. Although I no longer live near we remained friends. I knew I could always call him.
I am honored to of known him.
My deepest condolences.

We have known Pat for years, meeting through our children in school many years ago. Pat and I have maintained a friendship all these years even after the kids grew up and moved on. Pat and I loved spending time together, sipping a cold beer and enjoyed some memorable time together at my families home in Corsica where he and Vivian came to visit one summer. He was one of my best friends and I truely miss him. I feel very lucky to have been touched by his friendship.

Pat could talk to, and really be interested in, anyone from homeless guy to bank executive. He asked questions. And listened to the answers.

He was one of the best people I've ever met.

Everyone will miss you, Pat.

I hadn't seen Pat since the high school reunion. He hadn't changed. Still funny and easy to talk too. You will be missed old friend. RIP
