Robert SILVERMAN Obituary

SILVERMAN, Robert "Bob" Beloved father and grandfather, age 86, passed away at his home in Santa Rosa, CA, on October 16, 2015, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Tarentum, PA. Bob was a true Renaissance man, whose love for adventure, people, and learning new things was limitless. He excelled in whatever he did, including his twenty year Service as a science and math teacher in the Dixie School District. He was an innovator in education, remaining as a consultant to the school district after retiring. His life was filled with philanthropic endeavors, and giving back to the many communities in which he lived was an important part of who he was. He and his beloved wife, Charli, were instrumental in forming the Jewish Community Temple in Fort Bragg, were leaders in fundraising for the building of the a new Senior Center in Santa Rosa, CA., and were passionate political and social issues activists. Their caring about people extended to their own mobile home park community, Sequoia Gardens, where Bob led the "Red Committee," ensuring that his friends would be safe in times of emergency. He was passionately committed to the preservation of our planet, and implemented a recycling program for the park. One of the things he was most proud of, was his service to his country as a member of the 82nd Airborne. He was a prolific writer, and brought great joy to all those who were privileged to read his many stories about his life and adventures. A life-long learner, Bob had just joined Toastmasters, enrolled in yoga lessons, and fulfilled a life-long wish to visit Israel. He is survived by his beloved son, Colin "Skip" (Jill) Silverman; beloved daughter, Alix Peshette (Brad Davis); brother, Phil (Selma) Silverman; sister, Michelle Cooley; sister-in-law, Emily Boys; granddaughters, Logan Maley, and Alec Wayne; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was a hands-on friend and was always there to help anyone in need. He's leaves behind rich legacy of unconditional love and caring to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed. Chapel service will be at 12:30 p.m. at Eggen and Lance Chapel, 1540 Mendocino Ave. on Monday, October 19. Committal will follow at Santa Rosa Memorial Park.

My condolences to the Silverman family. I had Bob for Project Biology at Vallecito Junior High in 1976. He was a wonderful teacher and I learned much from him. He was kind, patient and understanding with his students. He always had a positive outlook and I can never remember him not having a smile on his face. Thank you for all of the classroom opportunities that you gave me, Mr. Silverman. You will be missed.
