Ronald TROUSE Obituary

TROUSE, Ronald Resch Born May 26, 1932 in Sacramento , CA. Passed away September 20, 2015 in Santa Rosa. Ronald is survived by Colleen Trouse, his loving wife of 61 years; his three children: Kristen Murray and husband, William; David Trouse and wife Maria: and Susan Green (Horvat) and husband, Sherman Green and six grandchildren Michael and Miranda Murray, Phacelia Alvarez-Trouse, and Jacob, Eric, and Benjamin Horvat and their father Josef Horvat, Jr. Ronald graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 1954, served in the Army Band at Fort Gordon, GA 1954-56 and received a MA from San Francisco State University 1957. He was an admired and beloved teacher of English for 36 years at the College of San Mateo. Ron's great joy was taking his family to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival every summer and acting in community theater. Tennis, playing the trumpet, camping, gardening, and backpacking were some of his favorite activities. Ronald was also passionate about social action and community service. For example, from the time Ronald was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease over 20 years ago until his passing he fought to help others with the disease and find a cure. He made the decision to will his body to the University of San Francisco where they will continue to research Parkinson's Disease. A memorial Service will be held October 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the UC Congregational Church 2000 Humboldt Street, Santa Rosa. Because of Ron's dedication to quality education the family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made in his name to Santa Rosa Charter Corporation, include a memo indicating that the gift is in memory of Ronald Trouse and mail to PO Box 2508, Santa Rosa, CA 95404. Online donations may be made at http://srecschool.org/donate. If you make a donation online, please call (707) 547-2480 to let us know it is a gift in memory of Sue Green's Father, Ronald Trouse .

a nice memory today of a wonderful man with whom my husband, Bruce, worked and played tennis. He and his wife, both sweet friends of ours.

I'm so sorry to hear about Professor Trouse's passing. He was easily one of my favorite professors (of any subject), but am grateful I had him as one of my English professors. Thirty years later, and I still think of the debates in his class where he would randomly assign students at the end of a class to take a certain viewpoint and debate a short story topic question during the next class. We rearranged the desks during the debates with two sections of the class facing each other and we would spend the entire class arguing points, with Professor Trouse reminding students to back up their points with evidence from the text. They were extremely valuable exercises that have stayed with me, as well as his Shakespeare readings (on occasion in full costume). He was great and I'll never forget him. What a wonderful and full life it seems he lived. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

What a lovely way to start today, thinking of Ron and Colleen. If Ron were Here, and if my husband Bruce were Here, I would love to talk about the magic and power of words with them, as I become more and more intrigued with language. pat

Dad reading, one of the things he loved best.

Sparkling eyes, radiant smile, and enthusiasm for life - I treasure these memories of Ron, as well as the stories of him on the tennis court with my husband, also a CSM English professor at CSM. pat cameron
